Default Contest with a $20 prize paid with Paypal

I am heading up a baseball card related contest. I will send $20 via PayPal to the first person that finds me the following card for my collection.

The deal is that if you have the card, I will pay you $20 for it. This card has a book value of about $0.50. If you find it for me and the card is someone else's (at a website, show, etc) , I will still pay you $20 for finding the card if I buy it. In other words, just give me a successful clue that leads to a purchase and you win the $20.

The card is this - a 2001 Topps Chrome Retrofractors #146 Fernando Tatis.

I have been looking for this common card going on 3 years. It is for my Cardinals team set collection. This part of my team set collection is Topps Chrome and Refractors. I have everyone since they started the Chrome Refractors in 1996 except for this Tatis. Help me find this card and you win $20 via PayPal.

Sorry, but that is the Traded version #T31 in an Expos uniform. I need #146 in the regular Chrome Retrofractors set in a Carindals uniform. Thanks for looking.

Shane it seems easier trying to find the Holy Grail then this card but it has to be out there somewhere. Ive tried calling a few of my collecting buddies to see if they might have opened material containing this card. Most have not they stated but I will continue to look.

Have you tried over on the beckett boards? I know there is a lot more modern discussion over there and its a possibility

I have looked at the Beckett marketplace, but I am not a member of those boards. Thanks for looking. I appreciate it.

I think that the main reason that it is so hard to find is because there might be a bunch of series one boxes that have never been opened. No Pujols or Ichiro in series one. I thought about buying a box or two, but that would be a lot of money for almost no chance of getting one.

I found in my search that you put this contest in a lot of different places. Hopefully this works out.

I went from super excited to disappointed in a matter of 1.5 seconds. That card is the regular Chrome (non refractor). I need the Refractor/Retrofractor version of that card. I was shaking there for a second. Unfortunately, that is not the card I need. Thank you guys for trying. Please keep it up!

Edited to add - if you do a Google search for that card, I am responsible for a bunch of those links just posting on message boards trying to find the stupid thing!

It'll turn up. Good luck!

Did you ever find the card? Did you call the card shops in the St. Louis area? It seems like they may have sitting in some overstock Cardinals boxes.

I have a lot of Cardinals cards, but I am pretty sure I don't have this card.

Here are the ones I know that have been around long enough that they may have had the card from when Tatis was popular here.

Baseball Plus-
346 Mid Rivers Mall Dr, Saint Peters, MO 63376
(636) 970-7088

The Collector Store-
2416 Highway 94 South Outer Rd, Saint Charles, MO 63303
(636) 477-7800

No. No luck yet. I will be so excited that the whole hobby world will know when I find one!

I will give them a call sometime this week. Thanks for the tip. I will let you know if I find one.

Default Tatis

Apparently the odds of finding this card are about the same as the odds a guy would hit 2 grand slams in the same inning off the same pitcher

Default Cardinal Moments

It is ironic that two of the greatest feats ever by Cardinal players, Tatis's 2 slams and Whiten's 4 HRs and 11 RBIs in one game, involved two journeymen on stop overs

Tatis's feat was against the Dodgers. Bob, I can not remember what Ohio team the Cards were playing when Whiten did his thing, do you recall ?

I don't think I'd necessarily call Tatis a journeyman on a stopover, at least in regards to his stint with the Cards. I seem to recall him being a youngster, getting his first shot to start in Texas before the Cards traded for him....Dude definitely shined almost immediately in St Louis. Then they seemingly bailed after that first injury(luckily, because the rest of his career was nothing but injuries).

Either way, I have a hard time considering a 23-25 year old, middle of the order, power hitting, third-baseman, a journeyman on a stopover... I get how it could feel that way in hindsight though..

Well, now I have proof that they exist. I was really beginning to wonder if they did. It is such a very common card, yet no one seems to have one.

Thanks for the picture.

Bump. Still looking for this stupid card. I look every single day that I am breathing and still can't find it!

It's funny...if you do a Google image search for that card, you will find a picture of it first....the second picture you see is my Pujols gloves avatar!
