Default Baseball trivia

Who was the only player to play in 3 different cities all for the same franchise?

I have fairly recently started picking up items from this player and just learned this about him today and thought it was kind of cool.

Since nobody knew or even made a guess I will give the answer.

This amazing player played one less year in the 50's than Mickey Mantle and still hit 19 more homers during the decade. Yes Eddie Mathews he played for the Braves in Boston, Milwaukee, and Atlanta.

Who is second in Braves history for home runs in consecutive seasons with the franchise?

A wild guess would be Hank Aaron.

Eddie Mathews - and I knew it before reading the second post.

Ben - you got to give us old folks a chance to respond.

Ok so here is a follow up question to the Mathews. Who is the only pitcher to record a win against the Braves in all three of their cities?

I'd have answered if I'd seen the question, Ben. I knew this. Of course, I'm a Braves nut, so I know a lot of stuff I shouldn't.

Isn't Andrew Jones first with 92, Aaron second with 89, and Eddie third with 87?

My earlier guess was based on Eddie being first and Aaron second. I had completely forgot about Andrew Jones having some monster years.

I see now my question is ambiguous let me reword. Who hit home runs in the most consecutive seasons with the Braves is what I meant to ask. Aaron is first who is second?

Which University of Florida product set the AL rookie HR record in 1950, a mark later broken by Mark McGwire?

Rosen, but I didn't realize he was produced in Gainesville since he was born in Spartanburg, SC.

Speaking of pitchers hitting home runs (that was a trick question ), what three pitchers hit a home run in the postseason but never hit one in the regular season? One of them was still active as of last year.

What pitcher won the ROY, Cy Young and MVP AND finished his career in Japan as a power hitting outfielder?

It's way too easy to look this one up based on the award info, but I still love the question. Pretty sure he's the only pitcher to win the big three awards.

yup. like I said easy question but a fun one. He may also be the only player to appear in the Negro Leagues, the Majors and the Japanese league.

Ok, this question is from my son.

Four players hit 7 home runs against Sandy Koufax.
Name them.

I will guess the obvious, Aaron, Mays, F Robinson, Banks, I think those are the top HR hitters of his ERA in the NL.

Felipe Alou takes Mays' place on list.

I did not cheat, only used available resources.

I will have to remember that one, looking at BaseballReference.com is not cheating, it is only using an available source .

Defeats the purpose, Raymond.

Three out of four ain't bad for a guess. Alou would have been well down my list, other righty batters that came to mind were Cepeda and Clemente.

Hi,guys. I think we can add Justin Verlander ase a pitcher that won a ROTY,CY YOUNG & MVP awards & should have got the CY YOUNG award in 2016,if not left off a voters list?He just needs to go to Japan & become a power hitter?Rob.

Sorry 'bout that Peter - I sometimes have to cut a few corners now that my RAM is more random than access.

You probably did better than I would have had I not 'used all available resources'.

Being a huge Koufax fan, I have, in fact, studied Koufax's Home Run Log on BBR many times before, but it never 'stuck'.

- I beg your pardon,

-Raymond

Clemente hit 6 including the longest HR ever hit off Koufax. You have to remember that some of those games were played in Forbes Field too, instead of easy parks to hit HRs in.
