Default 1899 Cincinnati Reds Silver Season Pass

Posted By: David Smith

Hello,

New to the board but have been collecting old cards for awhile (didn't start as soon as I should have and missed out on some great things, oh well).

I have a question I hope you guys can shed some light on...

A few years ago, at a local auction house, I had the chance to buy an 1899 Cincinnati Reds season pass that was made of silver. I didn't do it because I didn't have enough money to meet the reserve. Only one other person was bidding and I don't think they bought it either (after the auction was over).

Ever since then I have been trying to find out info on these but have had no luck. My questions are:
1) How many were made?
2) Who were they issued to?
3) How many are known to still exist?
4) What are their value?
5) Have any sold recently and, if so, for how much?

I know Mastro had one in his auction about four or five years ago but I never could find out how much it sold for.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

Thanks everybody!!

Default 1899 Cincinnati Reds Silver Season Pass

Silver season passes from all years are scarce, with the earlier the rarer. I can't imagine there would be many more than a handful of the one you mention. I don't know who in general they were given to, but I once had a 1920s Giants silver pass that was given to Mrs. Edd Rousch.

There is such a thing as a gold season pass, which is about 100x rarer than a silver season pass. These were genuine gold and were given to super duper VIPs. I saw one that was given to George M. Cohan (a famous early 1900s Broadway musical guy).
