Default Have you ever changed favorite teams?

I know its probably pretty rare but has anyone ever changed favorite teams?
I grew up a Toronto Maple Leafs fan but when the Colorado Rockies moved to Jersey (I was 17 yrs old) I felt I should support my new local team and have been a hardcore Devils fan ever since.

I don't know that I really have a favorite college football team anymore, but all through my teenage years and into 30s, I loved Penn St. football (even though I didn't go to PSU). Since 2011, I am a lot more agnostic about the school, and far more cynical of the NCAA, Board of Trustees for institutions and college sports in general.

Not in baseball or hockey. I've been an Orioles and NYRangers fan in those sports since I was a little kid in the late 50s. I grew up a Baltimore Colts fan though. They were my life actually. Until, of course, they bailed in 1983. After that I 'test drove' a couple of teams. First, the Oilers (I had season tickets for a while), and then I followed the Ravens for a year but they were just another stolen team so I let them go. Finally, the Texans were born here in Houston and I got in on the ground floor. Bought season tix the day they went on sale and have been a fan ever since.

My favorite 3 players are Red Sox, Wade Boggs, Roger Clemens, and Ted Williams. So I was a die hard Red Sox fan for a long time. Then Wade Boggs went to the Yankees and they became and still are my favorite team. I just couldn't be a Devil Rays fan when he went there.

Can't be many of us that went from the Sox to the evil empire.

I grew up in north New Jersey, so for me it was always Mets, Jets, Knicks and Rangers. I have held to that for many years even though most of them suck year after year. I have become a Yankees fan over the past 5 years or so. So for me, the Yankees have replaced the Mets.

I started out as a Raiders fan in the old AFL. Rooted for the Steelers in the NFL, but mainly watched AFL games. When they met in the 1972 Playoffs, I quit rooting for the Raiders and only rooted for the Steelers after that.

Default changing teams.

grew up a Phillies fan (phan?) in the '80s as Schmidt / Luzinski were my favorites...followed them forfuckingever, and while I still (halfway) still follow them, when Ryan Howard started to suck, I became a born-again Angels fan, my 2nd favorite team for the past 20 years.

while he's admittedly had some down years with the Angels, and while I love and respect Trout - he's awesome! - I've been a PUJOLS fan forfuckingever, and while I'm disappointed with his production - particularly over the past few
years, I sincerely miss his presence in the lineup, even though his feet / legs are now shot.

Hoskins of the Phillies keeps me a "phan", but I've become an Angels fan as well they've got Fletcher and a few other younger players that pique
my interest for the future, but even though my Phillies have a future, I've become a Angels fan.

I tried but I learned long ago that you don't choose your favorite team, your team chooses you. I'm a long suffering Leafs and Bills fan but also love the Jays so I have experienced a couple championships at least!

Have been, and always will be, whether they're good, or they suck.

My allegiances changed when my favorite players left town.
I was a hardcore Maple Leafs fan until March 3, 1968, when they traded Frank Mahovlich to Detroit, so I instantly became a Red Wings supporter. Then on Jan. 3, 1971, Detroit swapped the Big M to Montreal, so overnight I became a Habs fan. My loyalty to Montreal cooled considerably 13 years later when the Canadiens basically forced the great Guy Lafleur to prematurely retire midway through the 1984-85 season, but the last straw was when they traded Patrick Roy to Colorado on Dec. 6, 1995. I have been an Avalanche fan ever since.
Same thing in baseball. I loved the A's until New Year's Eve, 1974, when Catfish Hunter signed with the Yankees. Loved the Bombers ever since.

I grew up a Mets/Jets/Islanders fan. (For those of you not from the tri-state area, that is the usual rule of thumb grouping of teams. On the other hand, Yankees fans generally tend to love the Giants and Rangers.)

Going to college in Western NY exposed me to the rabidity of Bills fans, and slowly over time I started rooting for them...until I became a frickin' diehard Buff fan!! Went to a MNF game at Rich Stadium and cried like a baby four years in a row after the Super Bowl. Last year, they backed into the playoffs (and played terribly), so I thought the Buff was finally re-emerging from the doldrums...but here we are in 2018 and once again they are in rebuilding mode. Ugh. Still love my Jetties, but the worst 2 days of every year are when the Jets and the Bills play each other.

For baseball it has always been the Cardinals, although I did decided I needed to have a favorite AL team too. The early 80's A's became my AL team, I was a huge fan of Rickey Henderson & also enjoyed the antics of Billy Martin.

Hockey it has always been the Blues, only other team I ever really followed at all was the Canucks as I was a big Pavel Bure fan.

Football has been a little different for me, it's the one sport where the home team wasn't always my favorite team. My first game I watched was a Monday night game in the early 80s with the Steelers & I have been a life long fan since then. Thought I rooted for the football Cardinals & later the Rams, the Steelers have always been my team

I was a Philadelphia Flyers fan as a kid/teenager but when Bobby Clarke made his ridiculous comments about Roger Neilson, I became an Edmonton Oilers fan. This was in the early 2000’s so I did not jump on the Gretzky Stanley Cup winners bandwagon. Go Oilers!!!! I hope to catch them for a home game in the near future.

Those were weird and wonderful times to be a hockey fan. Six teams, you knew everyone in the league on sight. My Dad used to forbid anyone in the house from turning on a radio when the Rangers were playing a day game on Saturday or Sunday. He wanted to watch the tape delayed game that night unspoiled.

Sports has brought me to tears twice. First when the Rangers won the Cup in 1994. And then when I walked into Madison Square Garden to see them play in 2005 after haven't been away for 35 years.

I could see changing favorite teams if you moved, or your team left town. But my favorites have not changed. Packers, Badgers, and Brewers in that order. I root for the bucks and don't really follow hockey.

Nope.

Cubs
Hawks
Bears

There was a time when I was pretty young I had a White Sox hat, but my grandfather on my mom's side changed that by taking me to Wrigley every summer from the mid 60's on. My first MLB game was at old Comiskey though, a Sunday afternoon doubleheader against the Angels. I'm in the north burbs of Chicago so it's natural you gravitate towards the Cubs especially in the late 60's early 70's.

Long-suffering MN sports fan here.

I love the Gophers more than anything.

I cheer rabidly for the Vikings, Twins T-Wolves and somewhat more tepidly for the Wild (Not a hockey guy).

I do have other teams I enjoy watching, but that is mainly because of a player. I love a speedy centerfielder, so I watched a lot of A's games in the 80's and Indians games in the 90's.

I also used to hate Duke basketball. Now that my kids are college age, I am a fan because they seem to stay away from the off court stuff and tend to graduate guys that stay 4 years. Not many team are doing that anymore.
