Default 1960 Fleer #80

Ran across this short article in the July 1968 issue of The Ballcard Collector. Can't say I've ever heard of a fire destroying all of the #80 Pepper Martin cards. Anyone ever hear this before?

Dave-- had not heard the fire story. Was it at Murphy's house

I have one 80 back with my set. Grove. Have tried for Tinker and Collins but came up short. Grove is definitely the "easiest"' but it will still set you back some $$$

Default Martin

I may have posted this before but have told the story at shows.

In 1997 when I lived in Charlotte a local card store which mainly dealt in new cards told me they picked up 1960 and 1961 Fleer from a lady who brought them into the store. They were purchased by her son when he was growing up.

There was a #80 Martin in the group that did come from packs as it had wax stain on the back.

I sold the card at the National that year to Jim at 707 and he had it graded a PSA 6 oc if I recall.

The others I have handled over the years was all hand cut, most of them had a cancellation cut into the card.

So atleast one example did make it into wax packs.

Great info. What was the front. I know Jim. Wonder if he still has the card.

Mine is hand cut but not cancelled

I don't believe mine is hand cut, it's definitely oversized.
About '72 or '73 there was a blurb in TTS about the discovery of Collins/Martin and Tinker/Martin. They didn't seem to be known before that.

It is a Grove front. He had it in his showcase for several years but I think it sold but not 100% sure.

Thanks Dave, I knew either you or Dave K would have it!

Heritage sold this uncut panel in '09, it's cancelled on the bottom.
