Default Semi-OT: Game used bat pencil holders/keychains

Posted By: Dan McCarthy

I bought a couple of pencil holders and keychains from this guy and I just wanted to plug him because I really liked the product. He gets cracked bats from somewhere (minor league/spring training/etc) and fashions them into pencil holders and such. The keychains are lacquered (or varnished?) where the raw wood would be and the pencil holders have a thin layer of felt on the bottom. I like them because they're a neat/unique baseball item, and that the seller is repurposing something useless into something useful - with all the recent talk of conservation and recycling I think it is a cool concept. Here's a link to his things:

Default Semi-OT: Game used bat pencil holders/keychains

On the semi-vintage side, this was done in a way by the Vancouver Mounties of the PCL in the 1960s. When bats were cracked, they would have them sawed in half, signed by the team members and mounted on wooden plaques. The team year was then scripted on the plaque. While not rare, they are pretty cool items to see.

While this looks to an enire bat, it is prob not. Others I have seen are half length etc.

From my tour of the BC Sports Hall of Fame last week.
