Default interesting rothstein book on the bay

Posted By: jamie

whilst looking for 1919 black sox items on the bay, i stumbled across this closed auction:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=6933286415&ssPageName=STRK:MEDW:IT

anyone here read or heard of this book? does it discuss the 1919 series at all?

The fact that I've never heard of it, or even knew Rothstein was married, doesn't mean anything. Wonder why seller didn't at least LOOK inside?

Here's another Rothstein biography. Interestingly, only eleven pages is devoted to the fix. As for the spouse's biography, it's a book I haven't seen before.

That's what I was afraid of... I threw a $20 bid in and then promptly forgot about it. I'm thinking I should have gone higher. Just adding Black Sox into the title probably would have made for a nice profit (after reading it of course).

"The Life, Times and criminal Genius of the Man Who Fixed the World Series," available on Amazon.com (not C. Rothstein's book, the "Life, Times. Etc." book)

Have a feeling the available book might be better than "Now I'll Tell." Maybe it's just the title...

A quick google search turned up that Donald Henderson Clarke was a relatively famous newspaper man of the day and a personal friend of Rothstein...this book it seems was a memoir of some of rothstein's life and almost certainly contains some info. on the black sox scandal. if anybody could find a copy it might be a very interesting read...rothstein is almost a mythic figure behind some of the great literature people in america...used in great gatsby (meyer wolfsheim)and guys and dolls (nathan detroit) to name a few...i am not proud to say that my grandfather knew mr. rothstein pretty well as a youth in new york and chicago...not sure any of this helps locate the book but interesting to know that there is a book out there.

Donald Henderson Clarke also wrote another book on Rothstein, In the Reign of Rothstein, published in 1930, with copies readily available.

I haven't read it, but it may be more informative than Carolyn's book. Generally biographies written by or ghost written for spouses are less than definitive biographies of the subject.

I don't think you'll have much luck with Rothstein's memoirs--the gamblers weren't too keen on talking aBOUT THE FIX...
