A good one (though hard to find) is Richard Beverage's 1981 book, The Angels: Los Angeles in the Pacific Coast League, 1919-1957 (trade paperback)

As always, when looking for baseball publications, The Baseball Index is a tremendous resource http://www.baseballindex.org/tbi.asp

Hope this helps.

Max

A book came out this year called "The Golden Game, The Story of California Baseball," by Kevin Nelson. Paperback, 379 pgs. (ISBN 1-890771-80-5) California Historical Society Press & Heyday Books www.heydaybooks.com

31 chapters, but 1958 is not reached until Chapter 27. Contains some great photos and even a few pics of baseball cards. It begins with the 49ers who brought base ball to California during the gold rush. I'm only about one third of the way through it, but I recommend it.

You might want to look for books written John Spalding. I can't think of names of his books, but Mark Macrae would know. I think Dick Dobbins may have written a book or two on the subject also.
