Default 2001 Accomplishments - 2002 Goals

Posted By: petecld

How did everyone do this year collecting wise and what are your goals for 2002?

I'm happy to say that in 2001 I completed my E96, E98, and E253 Oxford Confectionary sets.

All things considered with the world these days I will probably be narrowing my collecting $$$ more but in 2002 my goals are to complete my E93, E94 and E102 sets.

What are everyone's 2002 goals?

2001 - Completed T200, T3, T9
2001 - Got my first W600

2002 goal - N28 (need Ward)
2002 goal - N184 (need Jockey of America, Billiardist)

and will continue to upgrade all that I collect as funds allow me, LOL. Does anyone collect the S74 white silks? I have about 75 different, all with backs. Looking to possibly liquidate them as I haven't bought any in awhile and want to set my sights on other sets. HAPPY NEW YEAR, vwtdi

Learned a heck of a lot about cards from the board members so I could trade and buy with more confidence, especially about non-tobacco cards. Besides picking up several of my favorite cards, I got a great start to an e95 set and made a lot of virtual friends!

Goal for 2002 - E95 WAGNER!!! ...and go to a card show, and buy some non-ebay auction lots.

Well....for 2001....I started collecting again (house building finally accomplished!). Hopefully 2002 will bring me a E107 HOF, an uncancelled '33 George C. Miller Dizzy Dean and plenty more "E" cards!

Take care!

I have a Mag?e portrait with one of the letters scratched off - do you want it? How good is your imagination? and I can make you a Plank and Wagner for a nominal fee! Maybe a Wagner with a ghosted image of Plank on the back.

Although I'm partial to the "colored" silks, I would be interested in "white" silks of Roger Bresnahan, Johnny Kling, Chief Meyers, and George Gibson. Although I already have a few "whites," I'd be interested to know if you have any for these catchers.

Several different colored inks including maroon and blue were used with these "white" S-74 silks, so you may have a diffent variety than the several that I have currently.

Let me know. Thanks. Patrick.

Made some progress towards my goal of getting all the 19th century Hall of Famers, and completing my Scrapps set. N162 Brouthers, N172 O'Rourke, N172 Kelly, 2 A35
(Goodwin Round Album) pages, 4 Scrapps, including Brouthers (I'm collecting the whole set, so duplications of HOF are O.K.), a Mayo Delahanty.
Still plugging away at the T202s; have 80.
Finished my Moe Berg collection (I have no idea why!)
Pretty satisfied with my Blaksox.
Now have all the deaf and dumb major leaguers who have cards: Dummy Hoy(N172--gorgeous), Dummy Taylor (Fan Craze and T206), Curtis Pride (1997 Fleer Ultra).
Finally got some orginal Mullin artwork. And all the Dodgers yearbooks with Mullin art on the cover.
Hey, I could go on all night.
2002:
1) I'm going to inherit some money. Please dear God don't let me spend it all on baseball cards and photos!
2) really want to confine myself to the 19th century HOF stuff. AND the 19thy century guys who ought to be in ther HOF. 3) Get some more 1947 Homoginized Bond Jackie Robinsons in good shape(have 5).

In 1983, Frank Barning told me to CONCENTRATE--don't spread yourself all over the century. Obviously, I don't give a hoot for Frank Barning.

Happy New year, all!

Certainly spent more than I thought I would but sure beats putting money in the stock market. I am down to one card for my 1957 Topps set (Mantle and I think he was overrated). I have obtained allthe HOFers from the Teens.

As for 2002, My goal is stop buying look enough to buy a house.

Happy New Year

Lee

Accomplishment for 2001--Found an Art Irwin-Washington Old Judge at a small card show for $45(scarce team variation).

Goal for 2002--Also to be adopted by Leon or possibly Julie if the inheritance comes through.

Those of us who have more meager budgets than others have to revel in smaller victories. Although my acquisitions were comparatively small as compared to the rest of you, I again managed to keep secret from my wife just how much I actually spent on the cards I did obtain (thereby avoiding her wrath).

I hope to duplicate that effort in 2002!

2001 Finds:
I drove my car to the baseball card store next to the Piggly Wiggly at the strip mall and found a mother lode of 1988 Donruss, all in an incredible VG condition or better. I bought about half of them. All of them had been sold by the time I went back to the store the next week. Luckily, where the Donruss cards used to be was a 1993 Conlon Collection card of Walter Higbe with only a slight crease through his head. Snapped it up! Thinking of getting it graded. But the best was in the wall of a house I'm remodeling. It is a 1978 Topps card of Tippy Martinez. When was the last time you saw a '78 Tippy Martinez? Boy, it's been a great year.

Hopes for 2002:
Talk myself out of bragging about my collection on vintage chat sites.

And for the really important stuff:

2001: I got quite a few of the T206 HOFers, many Exhibits, got a handfull of pictures and magazine articles on a boxer from the 1920s named ray miller who was a distant cousin, FINALLY got some M116's including mathewson, got an N266 type card (Lorillard boxing), got a 1928 PCL Exhibit card, met a lot of nice people here and elsewhere online.

2002: M116 Wagner and Plank in acceptable condition, T206 Cobb, complete my Exhibit Salutations set, more N boxing cards (if you got em I want em and will trade baseball for em), finish several of my high end condition boxing sets, go to the National, win a major case and retire on the proceeds.

Small budget, disapproving husband. He hasn't a CLUE how much of what I have I spend on cards.

Why can't they share our enthusiasms?

Fortunately tobacco cards are small and can be hidden easily, and to her they don't LOOK expensive! The recent addition of a 1910 baseball glove on my desk has raised some eyebrows though. I want a ring bat, but I think she'd use it on me.
