Default Can we see some Negro League items?

Would enjoy seeing what some of you have as far as Negro League and Pre-Negro League memorabilia and images.

I recently picked up a scorebook which contains some games from Negro League teams. The scorekeeper was apparently the official scorekeeper for the Clarion, PA team. He also kept score of a couple of Major League games, but the interesting content is a Negro League game between the 1931 Homestead Grays (the 1931 team was considered the best Negro League team of all time) and the Baltimore Black Sox. He Also has barnstorming games of the 1929 Havana Red Sox, 1930 Homestead Grays and 1948 Homestead Grays.

Would particularly like to see any photos or items relavent to this teams!

I've shown this several times before, but since you asked...

I own a this copy of a monthly magazine, focused on the Negro Leagues (and to a lesser extent, "Colored Sports".)

My research has shown that this magazine was not long lived. I believe only two issues were published. This is Volume 1, No. 2. I've never seen the first issue. I have only been able to find mention of one other copy of this issue. It's at Howard University, in the papers of the Edward Bolden collection.

This is a 20 page magazine (plus 4 pages of covers). This is just a sampling:

(I've made this offer before. If anyone wants to see the entire magazine, drop me an email at: jvb6034@aol.com)

Edited to add: I'm not sure why these pics come up as different sizes. They were all scanned at the same specs.

I designed and illustrated the fake prop scorecards for a movie about the Negro Leagues that was never made due to funding falling through and assorted Hollywood intrique... I did all 6 Negro National League teams as well as the Monarchs and a few other semi-pro and travelling teams. I tried to make these as real as possible, right down to the ads on the inside. Each one is 8 pages long with the actual lineups as they would have been in 1945. The graphics are not from the actual scorecards because the originals were actually much more primitive or were just borrowed from other teams and were not team specific. Needless to say because the movie was never made, I got stuck with a bunch of these and they are sitting in my attic.

Default From 1873 to 1963

Here are a couple of items from the beginnings of black baseball to the end of the negro leagues. The first is a print from 1873 of the Hampton University baseball team- this is the earliest realistic portrayal of blacks playing baseball that i have ever come across. The next two items are Indianapolis Clowns items. Few people realize that the Clowns actually continued to play into the 1970's. the press release is circa 1965 and the scorecard appears to bear the notes of the team owner Ed Hamman

Does anybody else get that same feeling that there might be an "attic find" in about 50 years if Jerseygary moves out of his house and leaves those scorecards behind! They'll be showing up all over with people claiming they're vintage scorecards.

Good point, however, each one is discretely marked with my website somewhere on it, plus all the ads are for fictitious products and I always slipped in an ad for Cooperstown Ballcap Company which my friend Will owns and the logo has a zip code in it. That said, they still look real convincing and like they are from 1945.

This is a crazy, somewhat entertaining story. Heritage accepted the consignment of a 1941 Josh Gibson signed Puerto Rican League contract in 2007, but it didn't meet the $35,000 reserve and went unsold. We were finally able to convince the owner to sell it without reserve in our April 2009 Signature Auction, where it realized a price of $95,600.
