Announcing,

“The KNIGHTS OF WINTER”

A history of ice hockey in British Columbia from 1895 to 1911.

Before the NHL, before the Pacific Coast League, British Columbia was a land of vibrant hockey. Totally forgotten, like an historical lost world, this story is now brought to life for hockey fans once more.

Finally, we have the definitive early history of hockey in British Columbia, after over five years of research and writing, fully illustrated with original photos, written and researched by Craig H.

Bowlsby.

The KNIGHTS OF WINTER will answer the following questions, and more:

Where and when did hockey actually start in British Columbia?

What was it like?

How did Lester Patrick, the great Hall of Famer, sabotage his own team from winning the B.C. Championships?

What town's team cheated the most?

Who were the great players?

What were their records?

What were the great contests?

What were its scandals?

The KNIGHTS OF WINTER is full of statistics, gathering information from the careers of every player reported on a team.

Tables have been compiled for most goals, team records, women's teams, etc.

The chapters in The KNIGHTS OF WINTER unfold on a year by year basis, following the genesis of the early, stumbling attempts to play, to well organized teams playing for championships for screaming, loyal fans who travelled from one mountain valley to the next, betting heavily on each game.

It was from this springboard that Lester and Frank Patrick launched their famous Pacific Coast League.

“A masterful job of research and writing.” - Bill Fitsell, former President of SIHR, and author of “Hockey's Captains, Colonels and Kings.”

The KNIGHTS OF WINTER will be a specialty book, octavo sized, with cloth covered boards, gold lettering on the spine, and slipcase outer covering. First printing will be limited to 500 numbered and signed copies. Uncorrected proofs for review copies will be available in the fall of 2006. For more information, or pre-orders, please contact epic@intergate.ca

Craig Bowlsby's previous work includes, “Ice Age Memoires,” A Bibliography and Compendium of Early Hockey Publications, 1996, Vancouver, (illustrated, limited edition of 50 copies).
