Default April Pick Ups

Just added this Steve Blass original art award to my 71 Bucs collection. The wife just purchased a new BMW this morning which gave me the opportunity to guilt her into this piece which in reality only has meaning to me. I think she got the better pick up but I am pleased nonetheless.

This really is my bat collection but the Bill Ripken bat that several members have emailed/PMed me about is a custom made bat I made a few months ago for my PC. Yes this was my attempt at a April Fools joke.

Thank you. I have a huge 89 Fleer Bill Ripken collection and the reason I made the replica. It is nothing compared to Mr Pedersons who posed in this thread but better than most.

I took a flyer on this....it looked vintage and I hadn't seen it before. Apparently the "Ballou Reg'd" on the clutch may indeed date it to the 1950s.

Very cool piece Rob. What is made of and what do think its purpose was? I have a ceramic shaped glove somewhere bearing the Pirate logo that I always assumed was an ashtray.

It's an inch tall. It's a lapel type pin with a clutch back. Made out of brass?

It's not s professional model bat and the final price proves it. The seller stated several incorrect facts about the bat and I informed him about it. Most collectors believe a professional model Spalding bat shouldn't have any Spalding logos on the knob or barrel end. Also the bat measuring 34 3/4, would mostly be considered a 35 inch bat.

Thanks Brock. Actually didn't feel it was a professional bat but honestly wasn't completely sure.

1916 RPPC. One of the attributes of this postcard that captured me is that it was postmarked only two days after the game. The game was on a Saturday Nov. 11, 1916, and this was mailed and postmarked on Monday Nov. 13. The photographer John P. Troy, who was the official photographer of Cornell University, apparently printed the postcards immediately following the game for sale or just to be given out. The same photo was also used in the yearbook that year.

Default c1910 Golf Trophy

 photo 20160403_114457_zpsukiu6vez.jpg

Picked up this golf trophy last Sunday at the Alameda Point show...For as big as that show is I don't really find a whole lot there...stuff for my own collection that is...As I was walking the show a friend told me about it and that he almost bought it...Sounded pretty good the way he described the nymph handles and all....Half hour or so later I found it...had a pretty hefty price which was why it was still there...I see a lot of trophies but this one pushed my button because it's so ornate and because of its size 15 ½” tall x 15” wide…has a presence to it...couldn't find a makers mark but looks like something Derby would have made...I'd guess it's about c1910-12...After I got home I did a completed search for "art nouveau” trophies but didn't see anything that even came close artistically...Plus I like the Seattle Police tie in...

Great stuff guys!
I love the trophy Carlton! How you been?

Living in Montreal now, I checked out an antique show this weekend in Drummondville, but didnt find much.
I was happy to get this Chicago Cubs Chewing Tobacco 16 plug, 2 lbs box.
I've never seen another, and it will go well with my original Cubs Chewing Tobacco advertising sign, that lists the plugs at 15 cents each.
I also recently picked up this team photo from the late 19th century in it's original frame with hand embellishments. Not sure what sport though...
Rugby? Looks 1880s.
I'd love to hear others opinions...
Joe? Mark?

Cool items Brent. Love the Cubs box. Your guess on Rugby is probably good one. Lacrosse and Rugby were popular back then in Canada. Unfortunately no equipment shown in the pic. Here is a link to the McGill Rugby team history.
