Default Aaron

I have just done his Topps and Bowman stuff, not your breadth. I do not collect him per se except as part of sets. I have a handful of the 68 Discs, but no Aaron. Maybe Larry S has one.

Your have a great run of stuff. You could have done a year of Hank, like the year of Brock thread

Really cool to see all this. I collect Aaron as well but never strayed too far beyond the Topps regular issues.

Am curious if you collect his bobbleheads or any other non-card stuff. A favorite I just got is the Braves unissued certificate for Aaron tying the HR record.

I've got a lot of Aaron stuff, too. You'd be surprised how much you can accumulate if you just stick to one player only. I didn't realize how much I had until I redecorated my home office - until then it was all kept in plastic tubs in storage. Please ignore Yoda and Donald Duck.

OMG!! Just amazing! Thanks for posting this other stuff. Happy to see you have the Eau Claire Bears bobble. That one was one of my tougher finds. And do I see you avoided the SAM 500 HR bobble? Part of me thinks I need it to complete my set, but part of me thinks it looks so unlike Hank that it would ruin my display.

Default 1976

Not as many regular size cards in '76, but a lot of tallboy sized ones. I just showed the front of the MSA blank back; I showed the backs of the rest. All of the fronts are the same except for the Crane Potato Chips one. Also, I do have a regular Crane disc, but it is back at PSA getting a new label (it was incorrectly labeled when I first got it back). I probably have 10+ more Carousel Snack Bars discs, but I just picked out one for grading.

I hid him in the back. I did see a Catman Aaron bobblehead on ebay that I liked, but it was priced higher than I wanted to spend.

Yeah, I stay away from the Catmans, however cute, for three reasons.

1. expensive
2. unlicensed
3. heard they break easily in the mail

I never got into covers much, but i do have a lot of wire photos in storage. I tried to keep up with all the modern Topps cards, but after Topps started putting out new cards, color variations, new game used cards, and multiple limited cards(1 of 100, 1 of 10, 1 of 5, etc.), I just gave up on the modern stuff.

A few of the post 1976 cards that I like. On the 1977 Brewers Team card, Aaron is top row, fifth from left.

Default missed cards

Here are two oversized cards I missed and some raw cards that I am waiting on a PSA or SGC sale to get graded. Raw cards, left to right, are: 1962-65 Jay Publishing Type 2 - Batting/Close up; 1958 Jay Publishing Type 1 - Batting; 1964 Hasbro Challenge the Yankees, 1965 Hasbro Challenge the Yankees; 1967 Dexter Press; 1972 Topps Cloth Sticker; 1960 MacGregor Staff; 1967 Topps Pin Up, 1967 OPC Pinup; and 1974 Topps Puzzle (one of my favorite poses).

Always liked the Diamond Jubilee cards. Can't wait to add the Yaz. And those photos of your office decorations are incredible!

The 1962 Salada coin Aaron with the 180 player back I have never seen. I quickly looked on eBay and saw several other players (low # coins) with the 180-player back variation. Is your Aaron back to same as those (displaying a completely different pattern), or is the variation only a change in the # itself?
Thanks
Dave
Sorry I missed this earlier, but I had five grandkids over getting dressed up for Halloween and it was crazy. The backs are two different patterns. This is a bigger scan of the backs. Wish it was clearer, but my scanner does not like PSA's coin slab. The one on the right is the 180 version. I got lucky on this one. When I found out about the two variations, I checked and I already had the 180 back. Finding a 200 back was easy.

Default Room

I really enjoy viewing all of the cards you have posted; some great stuff. To me, even better than the cards, are all of the items you have displayed in your office/room. Really like the way you have your items displayed. Is that a lawyer/barrister bookcase? If so, would love to see a pic of the whole bookcase. I'd like to do something similar in my room which is currently in disarray, but it's a work in progress.

On the card front, do you also collect proof items of Hank cards? If so, would love to see.

I really like the publications that Jason posted; the Jet, w/the b&w Aaron is way cool. If you don't collect issues with Hank on the cover I'd recommend doing so. Personally it's fun trying to track down all of the unique publications with your player on the cover. I went a little overboard on this front and started purchasing publications w/articles of my favorite player...I wouldn't suggest being like me (even though most of the articles are a really good read!).

Mark,

The items are in some barrister bookcases that I got after they were pulled out of a very old courthouse. I have six of them in various types of wood. They were in different offices, but were all made to stack up with pins and slots on the tops and bottoms. The glass in them is really hard to photograph through, so I took pictures of each case separately, with the glass fronts open.

I have a few proof cards that I posted above. I don't actively look for them, but I do buy one every now and then if the price is right.

I never could get into magazine covers. A few years ago I bought a lot of Aaron wire photos, but stopped when I realized that they, like magazines, are hard to display. Its bad enough having the cards locked up in secure storage - that was the main reason for scanning the cards.

Thanks - another card to look for. Actually, after I decided to get the checklists with Aaron's basic cards on them, I discovered that it's fun to try and track down all the variations of certain cards.

Absolutely amazing Aaron collection. I really like how there is a mixture of PSA/SGC slabs in every grade imaginable. Signs of a true collector. Thank you for sharing!!!

This is my only Aaron a SGC graded 58 Blue Front with bright yellow in the logo. It is a only know variation and just as altered as all the other blue front 58 Aaron cards. I like the looks of the blue much better than the green background.

@RobertC - If you haven't seen them before, Pennzoni cases are great for displaying card runs. My case was made for 50 raw cards, but I think they also have styles for slabbed.

Agree that the SGC 2.5 looks MUCH better than the SGC 3.

Great collection ! I'm an Aaron collector too and thoroughly enjoyed viewing your cards. Thanks for sharing !

Here are the 2 Red Barn backs. Note the absence of the Kenosha Wisc address in the one on the right.

Also, I see the Crane Potato Chips disc is square. What is that?

Thanks for the scan of the Red Barns. The Crane disc is a square proof. I sent a Crane regular disc and the square proof into PSA for grading; both came back with a "square proof" label. I actually got six cards back that were labeled totally wrong. They are back at PSA getting relabeled.

Truthfully, whichever is having the best sale that month. My son knows that he is going to inherit them, but he doesn't have a lot of interest in them yet. I'm mainly getting them slabbed for him; if he does decide to sell them in the future, at least he will know what they are and a rough idea of value.

Default a few more Aaron pickups from Nov. & Dec.

I hadn't gotten around to posting these yet. I am really happy with the Mattel record - PSA doesn't grade them anymore. I hope to eventually find a graded single side version. I am also getting a few of the different print runs of the sportscaster cards - got a few more to get graded.

Default some slabbed autographs

I just purchased the cut. I bought the others years ago and finally sent them in to PSA/DNA.

I picked up a 1968 Kahn's complete set in which all of them have the complete panel wrapping. Here are the two Hank Aaron's. I'll probably sell all of the non-Cincinnati Reds panels at some point.

Just got a few more in. I also posted the Pittsburgh Exhibits in a "January Pickups" thread. The 1972 Reggie Jackson In Action cards are not really Aaron cards, but I never noticed what was on the back.

Per our 2016 Jan pickups thread, you may now have to chase a c1966 Van Heusen photo as well!

Actually, at this time, I'm trying to avoid anything too large to get slabbed. I've got a few 8 x 10's and quite a few wire photos, but I'm trying to focus on cards right now. I just picked up PSA graded examples of both variations of the 1968 Topps Milton Bradley #107 checklists for my Aaron checklist run and a 1971 complete Bazooka box.

I got a few more for my run of Aaron checklists (checklists that have Aaron's basic cards). The Milton Bradley checklists were a little tough to find. I did not even know about the 1972 Cloth Stickers checklist until recently.

Thanks, everyone. I should have some more pics soon. I've got 50 more cards at PSA - I'll post them as soon as PSA decides what "50 days" really means. I'm also redoing my office. I got some more really nice items and had to put in a few more shelves.

Since it seems like it will be near the end of April before I get anything back from PSA and I finished up the changes in my office, I decided to post some new pics here, even though this thread is in a a card forum. Sorry about the not so great photos; I really need to upgrade my camera. The pics go more or less from left to right around the room. Pic #2 has two new bats on top - a 3000 hit bat and a NL MVP's bat. Pic #3 (sorry about the glare) shows the signed helmet, cleat, and glove that I just picked up. Pic #6, middle row, shows some signed ball with Aaron in the inscriptions - Billingham/HR#714, Downing/HR#715, Drago/HR#755, Lum/1'st pinchhitter, and May/traded for Aaron. The last pic is really off topic! It's signed Redskins mini helmets from the Super Bowl XVII winning team. I hope to have some scans of graded cards soon!

It's been really tough finding new, affordable Aaron cards. Since it seems it might be a while before I get anything back from PSA, here is a pic of one new Aaron card. It's a 1975 Brewers team checklist hand cut from sheet.

Fantastic! I too collect Aaron though not as comprehensively. There are lots of regionals and oddball item you can go after next if you are running out of challenges.

Robert, that's an amazing collection you've put together! Have you reached out to Aaron to let him know about your collection?

Robert,

Thanks so much for the pictures of the room. The way you have your Aaron items displayed is very nice. I particularly like the barrister bookcases that you have items displayed in; makes for a great display.
