Default My First Ruth Card

I just want to thank everyone on the Forum who bought cards from me to help me to buy this card. I posted at the beginning of the year in the "What Card Would Make Your 2011?" thread, that a 1933 Goudey Ruth would be IT for me. Well, I found one at a price I could manage. And I think it looks GREAT for the grade.

EDIT: I received the card today and it is GORGEOUS. Better color than the pics make it look by far. And the best part- NO CREASES!!! I couldn't believe it. Here it is:

I'm a small time collector compared to most of you folks, but I'm VERY proud to have this card. I have also gotten a '41 DiMaggio, a T205 Mathewson, some Goudeys, and a few T206 cards from the forum and I'm thrilled with them all. Thanks for helping me get back into collecting and showing me there is a treasure trove of cards that are NOT made by Topps!

My first (and only) was the E126 Ruth.

I like your '33. Nice eye appeal for a SGC 10. I have a similar SGC 10 '33 Gehrig. Congrats!!!

My First Ruth Card.Someday I hope to make this claim as well! Nice card I would be proud to have it in my collection anyday!

If you don`t mind me asking how much did you pay for it? Just so I can know how much to pay more or less when I try to find one.

Default Congratulations

I remember everything about my first Ruth. I remember waiting until the last second to put my bid in. The feeling that I had when I realized that I had won the auction was awesome. I had never spent more than $75 on a card before that. I even sent the seller a few extra bucks and asked to to get it to me as fast as he could.

My wife remembers it too. A couple of weeks ago she said "Everything changed when you got that first Babe Ruth card in the mail." I said "I know....I don't know why I waited so long."

I've been in those shoes. I recall glancing at it as I drove in the car, when I first got one. Great to have one from his playing days. And that one looks good enough to me!!! Congratulations.

Great card!

You know it might be worth it to regrade it at SGC if you wanna bump it up even a grade or two. If not then that's cool too, but I think it's at least worth a shot.

I don't think the card will bump because of the pinhole even though the eye appeal is greater than a Poor rating.

"worth it to regrade it..." and I was thinking how the Babe was screaming 'freedom' and you should liberate him from the slab.

Thanks Johnny, you've been very kind to share your vintage card knowledge with me and swap stories with.

And thanks to everyone else too. I had to sell my prized '69 Topps signed Mantle and a few other things I didn't want to, but at the present time I have no regrets.

Fantastic pickup! Demand for Ruth will never go away, IMO. A card to be proud of.

Congrats, that's a nice one.

Surprisingly, even after 33 years I haven't bought one yet. And Goudey Ruths were the card the dealers I hung out at would hand me and say "you really should buy this card" I'm still not sure why I never did.

Congrats...I can totally relate on the excitement! ....I got my first Ruth (33 Goudey #144) at the National Convention in SF and I was thrilled just like pulling my favorite card out of a gum pack as a kid..

Congratulations Jarrod - What you gave up for the Ruth makes you really appreciate what you have in hand!
Sounds like you have a great start on your vintage collection.

Thanks Richard. The yellow & red Goudey Ruths are a little better looking IMO, but hey... I'll take what I can get.

The card arrived in the mail today and it looks stellar. If it wasn't for the pinholed area, it would grade at least a 3, as there are NO creases.
