Default Heads Up on a Bad Seller on Amazon - Sports Items

I received this information from a good hobby friend of around 20 yrs. He is a board member too but wants me to post this for him because of some ongoing situations. Most of the times this type of thread will require a name, so mine is here.

his email-

Amazon seller 'Sports Collectibles Online' is attempting to sell a unique pre-wwii sports item that I own. He is also selling it through his website: Sportscollectibles.com Most of his over 165,000 items are modern autographed things; however, he also has some very expensive vintage stuff up for sale - Christy Mathewson autograph, pre-wwi baseballs, etc.

I assume that since he is trying to sell my item (possibly more than one of my items) that he is also attempting to sell vintage sports memorabilia that belongs to some of you. He is selling over 165,000 items on Amazon, so it's difficult to search other than by date; e.g-1909. I do not want to put the specific details of my item in this post, as Amazon is currently investigating my complaint and I would rather they catch him red-handed; however, Amazon is moving very, very slowly, as their primary concern is protecting their sellers, so I wanted to give you all a heads-up as this could take a while. I do not even want this person knowing my handle, as he might be a forum viewer and that could be enough information for him to locate and remove items.

Hope Amazon more with more alacrity than eBay does.

Has anyone of the board ever purchased a card of collectible off Amazon? Every time I look the prices are ridiculous and clearly designed to collar an unsophisticated buyer.

I'll add another one.

Dan's Vintage Cards is trying to sell an item on Amazon that I own. I can't remember if I bought it from him originally, but I know I got it on Ebay. So, it is possible this is an innocent mistake where he this is just accidentally left the item on Amazon when he had it listed in both places.

Cheers,
Patrick Prickett

Amazon removed the item. It is still on the 'sportscollectibles.com' website, but the image has been removed.

Checking around, I found an Amos Strunk signed baseball for sale by them both in their Amazon Store and also on their website. It is owned by Mill Creek Sports, which is a reputable seller here in Washington State. I called Mill Creek and they said that they are aware that Sportscollectibles.com is doing this with their items.

I can see someone advertising something for sale that is generic (not unique), then going out and buying the product from another seller in order to fulfill an order, but this is different. It can affect the opinion that potential customers have about the actual owner's business, in addition to possibly giving the false impression that an item is not as rare as it actually is.

Another thought - if one of these unique items actually ever sold on the sportscollectibles website, it could create problems for the actual owner. When they attempted to buy the item from the actual owner, in order to fulfill their sell request, if any issues came up with their customer those issues could get passed back to the actual owner. Selling someone else's stuff without their permission is just a bad idea.

This is not the first time I have found a site like this. There is one out there(forget what it is) but basically they take anything on EBay, triple the price and offer it on their site.

The prices are absolutely outrageous. I contacted one of the EBay people just to try and get a scoop. They said they know, however, the site was their biggest purchaser, so they were not saying anything.

Go figure. FacePalm.
