Default M101-7 question

Posted By: nolemmings (Todd)

I need some help on a 1927 m101-7 premium I won and just received. Were these premiums folded? The Lazzeri I won (link below) has three very light to light horizontal fold lines, running roughly along the chin, groin and knee areas. Seller offered a 10 day return, and I may keep it anyway (really like it), but want to weigh all options. any info appreciated.
Regards..........Todd

I've never owned one of these suppliments. However, I'm aware of very few of these types of suppliments or premiums that were issued folded, and they would usually be of size larger than 8X10". If an issue was 'factory folded' it would usually be obvious by the neat and linear fold pattern. If as issued, it would be prudent anyway for the seller to mention that the print has folds so there isn't any confusion.

I know that the Baseball Magazine Premiums (unfolded), which can be quite large, were mailed in a jumbo padded envelope. The largest sized Harper's Woodcuts have a natural fold down the center, but these weren't actual supliments or premiums, but a printed part of the magazine.

Speaking of woodcuts, the current Barry Sloate auction has a 1865 Leslie's Illustrated 'Jim Creighton' Woodcut. This is generally regarded as the most desirable 19th century magazine woodcut, and is one of the few (and probably only nearing affordable) 1860s Jim Creighton item. And, yes, the fold down the center was 'factory issued.'

I have the Cuyler and it is not folded. It is conceivable that some were sent out folded by the Sporting News, and some not. But I really don't have any information that this occurred.

Andy, I got the catalog in yesterday's mail. It's a small auction, like 60 lots. There was a webpage listed, but it isn't up yet.

I have contacted the seller and resolved the matter. I see from the responses that others must also find these supplements attractive and collectible. Thanks again.
