Default T206 Cobb Red Broad Leaf 460

This sold early this morning in the Clean Sweep auction:

http://www.csauctions.com/item.cgi?show_item=0000227459

A few questions:

1) Was the price higher or lower than expected?

2) Do you think the results would've been different if sold in REA or Mastro? If so, how so?

3) Concerning the cards rarity. Do you agree with the auction statement that this card is possibly "one of kind"? Do you know of any other Cobb BL 460s out there?

4) The t206museum site states that the BL 460 is the fifth rarest back, with the four most rare being southern leagues, old mill brown (southern leaguers) and Ty Cobb back (if you believe Ty Cobb back is a T206, see achieves for the dispute). It is a head of Drum, Lennox Brown and Uzit. Do you agree with how they have ordered the backs? http://www.t206museum.com/page/ch_scbklt.html

once upon a time many years ago, yeah sounds like a fairy tale. i bought this card in a group of 180 cards from the infamous broadway rick for $1800, several other tough backs were in the lot, unbeknown to them i kept it for a couple of years, but due to it's condition and constant pleading from another collector i relented and sold it.

since then it has changed hands a couple of times and it was offered to me again for about $5K. having owned it once before i passed.

bottom line is it think the card did extremely well given the condition. would it have done better elsewhere, perhaps, perhaps not.

steve has a reputable auction and as wide a customer base as the others, ofm which about 95% of all bidders probably overlap from all auction house list. so it probably would not have made much difference.

I know Art Martineau was trying to collect every T206 Tiger with every back possible at one time. Art is a nice guy, hope if he didn't already have one, he got this one.

T206 Estimator.

The estimated value for a T206 Ty Cobb(Red Portrait) with a grade of PSA - 1 (PR-FR) and Broad Leaf - Series 460 back is: $13,200

95% of the time, the Estimator is off by between 15-30%. But being off by $9K+?

Yes, this was the card I used to own. I had tried to get this back over the last several months but it just didn't work out. I think that $5,000 is a fair price for this possibly unique card. Congrats to the new owner.

Also...
Ed McCollum - please email me, I have lost your email. Thanks for the nice words.

I was the winning bidder. I believe there was just one other bidder than myself who kept going back and forth on it. Whoever that person is, please step forward because I would love to know who caused me all the "grief" last night!

What kept popping in my head is "if you pass on this, when will you see the next Cobb BL 460?" I went to bed shortly after placing my max max bid not knowing if I would be outbid or not.

I don't consider the Ty Cobb back a T206, so this would be the toughest T206 Cobb for me to get. While the price made me feel very uncomfortable, the condition did manage to keep it within my financial reaches.

Finally, I'm looking for a Lennox, Red Hindu or Uzit Cobb....I have a Carolina Brights for trade bait.

thanks
Brian E.

Sorry, I'm still choking on the "advanced collections" part of the description. Somehow, I've come to hate that term as it seems like we're all playing Dungeons and Dragons.
