He assured me that he's done his "research" on this card so that has to mean something. I asked him if he had any T206 Wagner or Plank's laying around. He didn't take too kindly to that one.

I don't know much about CJs. How do you know it's fake?

1914 CJs are some of the easiest fakes to spot IMO. Simply because the originals were printed on what was practically paper (very thin, somewhat translucent, with a distinct texture to the paper stock).

Here's an example of a REAL 1914 CJ with similar degrees of wear:



Note the texture on the back, the delicateness of the creasing.

The Jackson is printed on normal brown cardboard stock. And of course there are more obvious indications of it being a fake, indications that are common to most if not all vintage cards. The suspicious aging. The "raccoon" eyes and high contrast between lights and darks. On real cards, the darks blend seamlessly with the colors and suggests shadow rather than making Joe look like the Hamburglar.
