Default Satchel vs Joe D - 74 years ago

There was an interesting story in my local paper this morning about when Satchel
Paige first faced Joe DiMaggio in a game played 74 years ago today. I hope
some of you enjoy it too.

Default nice read

Great article about Joe and Satch. Joe said he was the greatest pitcher he ever faced.

I have always had Satchell inked into my All-Time top 5 starting rotation:

Walter Johnson
Lefty Grove
Satchell Paige
Sandy Koufax
Nolan Ryan

Thanks for posting this, Dave.

Satchel has long been a favorite pitcher of mine. I remember getting a Shakey's Pizza card of Paige when I was a kid and my dad told me about what a fascinating man and incredible player he was.

I've since collected every Paige card released from 1948-1994, with the exception of the 1948-49 Leaf. After 1994, "new" baseball card releases became sort of a wasteland. Besides being designed in the most ugly way possible, I can't see dropping $4 on a pack that has five cards in it, even if there is the hopes of getting a piece cut off of some legend's jersey. Bleh!
