Default Mantle Ball in Mears Auction (can't be real right???)

I know nothing about Mantle's autograph, but this ball is currently up for auction in the current Mears Online Auction. No chance this is real correct? It has a JSA letter....

http://www.mearsonlineauctions.com/1...LOT133508.aspx

I'm trying to learn his autograph and I say no way, but I'd love to hear the experts chime in....

It’s not real and there’s no way it would pass regular JSA authentication - the auction house letters are a whole different beast.

Aren't auction houses like Mears supposed to be trustworthy? How would this slip by if in fact it is fake. Not accusing Mears of anything at all, I'm a bit of a newbie and thought if you bought through an auction house it would be legit.

terrible typical banana Mantle up to $327.00 .

You just can't save people from themselves as that signature bares no resemblance to Mickey Mantle whatsoever.

I've seen this happen a lot with reputable auction houses like MEARS - an item gets put up for bidding but is taken down before the auction ends. I'd be shocked if they allowed this to sell.

This is a shop at home special from B&J You would have thought this belonged in a Coaches Corner auction

You're right, Mike, but how did it last this long?

Embarrassing.

I would hope if I ever slip and put something in my auction that isn't right that someone here would notify me directly!

You'd think abhuge auction house would have some sort of an employee who's job it was to look at things.
Putting thin s on social media is by far the fastest way to get a response. The winds of change be blowing.

And there was one upset auction owner (lost his password) a few days ago who really wanted back on the board for a reason. I guess he wanted to see what else he missed besides this ball? MEARS has been a good company in the past and I would trust Troy to do the right thing.

I wouldn't mind it being posted, I'm all for transparency/accountability, but if I'm not checking the boards a personal heads-up would be appreciated!
