Default Need Help with vintage photo: Anyone heard of Buffalo Ramblers?

Posted By: Keith

I picked up this 1911 basketball photo a while back of a team called the Ramblers from Buffalo. 2 of the players have an old english style B on their chest, the rest have Ramblers stitched onto their jerseys. In front of them is a trophy basketball painted World Champions 1911. Their uniforms look well made, and this doesn't appear to be a rag tag team. A little google research shows a German Buffalo Ramblers beat an All-Syracuse team in 1911 to be World Champs, but I have not got further than that. The photo is pretty big, 14 x 11, and it was hard for me to get a good image of it. The photographer is Kramer of Buffalo NY, and is signed on the front in ink by the photographer and is stamped by him on the back. The photo at some point was broken in half at some point, but was professionaly restored.

Has anyone ever heard of this squad or have any ideas on how I can research them further?

Default Buffalo Ramblers

Hello, The photo is of a basketball team that my grandfather and his brother were on. The team was mostly known as the Buffalo Germans but at times called themselves the Buffalo Ramblers and the Buffalo Orioles (primarily during the WWI era). The team is one of the few teams (3 or 4) that was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame when it opened in 1961. This was a Buffalo YMCA team, one of the earliest in the country. They had quite a long run and an outstanding record. Please let me know if you'd like more details or for me to identify the players.
