Default Let's see some FIGURAL ASHTRAYS!

Here's a few. Not sure if the two that look alike are actually ashtrays or just tchotchkes. The big one is marked "Cal-Themes 1958 USA" and the pot metal one says "Wizard Mfg. Co. Tiffin O."

Great stuff everyone, and great thread idea, Rob!

This segment is up my alley as well. Most of the Ashtrays below tend to be an earlier vintage, and of generic nature...

While these Team-specific Ashtrays are mostly mid-century creations...

i just picked these up last weekend at a small show near cleveland. i'm more of a reds then indians collector but couldn't pass these up from a guy who was selling his cleveland collection. don't know a lot about them but like the fact i was able to get both variations at one time.

Everybody's got better stuff than me.

Mark, what's the story on the big, screaming head between the umpire and batter?

It's a baseball-related ashtray as well.... a late '40s Umpire's Head screaming "Yer Out!"

IMO, it looked better propped up vs. laying down. So I placed it vertically on an easel.

LOVE that Shea Stadium piece. And the fact that it was presented to Wheat is double icing on the cake!

Default Heffner

I'm a fan of the ashtrays produced by former major leaguer Don Heffner:

Those Heffner Ashtrays are fantastic. Must be rare too, as I never see them surface.

Just one more way the world has changed... any Millenials reading this are probably wondering.... What the hell is an ashtray?

I bought it in the latest Brockelman Auction. They had it listed as 1920s? so I'm not really sure. Here's the link:

Great little piece...

I think it might actually be "teens era". The orange paint and composition very strongly resemble the Schafer & Vater figural pieces of that time. Nice pickup!

Those are really cool. Are they marked "Yoo Hoo" anywhere? Looks like an olde English "B" under Yogi....is there an "M" under Mickey?

Hi Rob:

Yes, there is a "M" monogram under Mick like the "B" under Yogi.

There is no Yoo Hoo markings on the ashtray. Lou and John at Inside the Park Collectibles posted a letter from the former "owner" (?) at Yoo Hoo that talked about them.

I'll see if I can find a scan and post it.

Fred

I forgot about this one. I always assumed it was from 1969; the 100th year of professional baseball, but this website (run by a Net54 guy) says 1939; 100th year of baseball ever being played.

http://1939baseball.com/ashtrays.html

What do you guys think?

Default SF Giants

found this while digging thru a box of stuff today, and while I didn't find it worthy of it's own thread, I figured I'd
post it here, particularly since Rob (ooo-ribay) started this thread way back when.

6-inch metal "tray postcard".

okay, it's NOT "figural" - hell, it's actually not even an "ashtray" by definition but it IS an option (see 2nd scan) as "ashtray" is at least mentioned as a possibility!

don't know how rare or unusual it is, but it's cool, especially since it references a specific game(s), a doubleheader against the Cubs, with Willie Mays hitting HR #325 in game 1 (games were actually played 4/29, not 4/28 as mentioned in handwritten message).

anyway...

I always liked those little trays. 4 cents to mail? Now, they'd say it was not "macineable" and charge $3+.

Technically not sports (or maybe not even an ashtray). But when I saw him at the flea market I had to have him.
A little research online dated it to 1950.
