Default Should I get this graded? 2009 Chrome Mike Trout au

I'm debating if I should get Beckett to grade this. This would be an easy 9.5 overall if it weren't for the stupid factory scan lines (that are far too common with these Chrome cards). The centering on this is a 9.5 at least, as are the edges, and likely the corners.

Is there any way the surface grade on this card gets a 9? Or am I looking at an 8.5, meaning the overall grade is a 9?

I wish Topps exercised a little more quality control with their production, but what can you do?

I've actually considered selling this. I should be able to get at least $350 for it. Then I could just spend a few hundred out of pocket to get a nice 9.5 graded one. I think Trout is a future Hall of Famer, and I want to act soon.

Thanks for the input guys.

If it were me, I'd sell the card now before his popularity begins to fade. I'd be willing to bet in 5 years, you could get this card for at least 50% less than what it would cost today. Just my opinion. Nice looking card, good luck!

Default I use a simple rule

If the cost of your grading i 15 percent or less of the cards' value then no brainer to grade.

And those holders at Beckett are insanely good, so I would do that as the cost is probably right AND it protects your card

Thank you, Jason and Rich. It's a beauty in person, and I got it for $99. I know the value could go down, but I have a really nice Bowman Chrome prospect auto collection, and I'll likely keep it.

Rich, I agree about their holders. They're great for modern cards, and virtually uncrackable (without making a mess). I like the inner plastic sleeve, too.

I have a bunch of these to grade: Manny Machado, Matt Harvey, Paul Goldschmidt, Oscar Taveras, Gerrit Cole, etc. I might just get them together and take them in when they next do an in store at my local bbc. Beckett is in Dallas, and that would save me the cost of shipping there + insurance.

Default Yes

and if they are set up at a local show they will do the paperwork and otherwise you can go to the office, ring the bell and deliver the cards (and then pick up when ready). I go to the office to do that for my last 2 pick ups

Thank you, Rich! I never knew I could go to their office and drop off cards, and then come pick them up. I thought we could only do that when they have an open house. Knocking out the shipping and insurance charges would encourage me to have a lot more cards graded.

I'm assuming I would just need to fill out the submission form, and box the cards up, and the charge then would depend on the turnaround time only (adding $2 per autograph, iirc).

no harm in getting it graded, kinda hard to judge a high grade card through a scan, lots of variables involved and not cut & dry like a VG t206. if you're interested in selling it i have someone who's looking for this specific card.
