Default Any recommendations on auction help?

Posted By: warshawlaw

I'm planning to significantly thin my collection in the future and I want to do it on a no-refunds basis since most of the cards are graded and I make sharp scans. Unfortunately, the ebay auction photographs stink. I scan the cards at sharp resolution and the resulting image on ebay is usually low resolution. I have seen some auctions with really sharp scans. Anyone have any ideas for how to set my scanner (an HP) and/or for an auction hosting company that can generate a nice, clear scan for me??

i would suggest honesty.com as 1 idea, they have easy image uploading and hosting for very minimal fees and you can also list directly to ebay from there, again at a very low cost. the images are very sharp, sometimes they do load a bit slow unless compressed to 50kb or less. you can log on to their website above and get started.

If you don't want to use one of the hosting services, e-mail me if you want to use some of my web space. The images you scan will be the ones you use - no converting and you have full control over size/resolution, etc.

Lots of factors go into way scans look like bad. My best results come from scanning at 150 dpi at 100% and resample the image to the size I want. Hard to say since scanning software have different ability.

My suggestion is to use the scanner software to crop the image to exact size, then use the "supersize" feature.

Scott: I am familiar with the scanner function that permits me to crop the image. Is that "supersize" thing an ebay feature or is it a scanner function?

for the offer, Pete. I may take you up on it.

I think I understand the technical end of your suggestion, but I want to be sure. How does that "resampling" thing work? I have the HP scanning software--which menu item is that under, or is it in the photo software that opens the image on my computer?

The resampling feature will be in your Photo editing software. I use Adobe photoshop. What software do you use?

For 75 cents per auction, you can have your scan(s) available for supersizing, which typically can show a more than adequate amount of detail.

with ebay imaging, the total image size is always the same regardless of the initial scan resolution, so for clearest results only have one scan per post. If you are selling more than one card in a single auction, you can use the "Picture services Picture pack" - good value and you can have up to 6 images, each with supersize feature. This is also good if you're selling a book or magazine and you want to include pictures.
