Default 1927 Babe Ruth 60th HR Acme wirephoto Chicago Tribune

I have a September 1927 Acme telephoto of Babe Ruth hitting his 60th HR sent to the Chicago Tribune. Overall in poor shape. Want to gauge the interest in this item and if anyone can share information on old sports wirephotos. I also have 4 more Babe Ruth wirephotos, 2 DiMaggio and 1 Jackie Robinson all in rough shape but all original.

Ribbens,

Original photos will have a press stamp on the back. In 1927, a news caption would be found pasted on the back as well. Wire photos started about 1935, news captions could be found on the front of these photos, but still have a press stamp on the back.
To me, it appears you have a copy of a 1927 photo, taken some time 1935 or later. I am not the expert as many on this board, if I am wrong, I am sure they will correct me.
Not much value in copies of earlier photos, sorry to give you bad news.

There were wirephotos in the 1920s, but I don't believe ACME started making them until the 1930s. Wirephoto captions usually have the date of transmission (when they were made) in the caption, so I'd be interest to know what it says in the upper left.

ACME was bought up and the name changed in the 1950s, so it's not a modern photo.

Ruth's 60th home run is a particularly significant event, so I'm sure it has some value even though made later.

drcy.....thanks for your reply, I appreciate your information. On the back of this telephoto is a stamped "Acme Telephoto" Chicago Bureau. I will need to double-check the date on the top left of this item and get back to you with that information.

There is no way that photo was produced in 1927. My guess would be late 1940's to 1952, based on the verbal description of the back stamp. It's in pretty rough shape, and not the best later-generation image at that. It would still have some value to Ruth collectors with thin wallets looking for a bargain, but nobody's going to retire on the sale of this one.
