Default Williams Exhibit?

I have always been a 50s Topps guy, but I am branching out to collect Ted Williams for a while. I am trying to educate myself about Exhibit cards. Is this one a 1939-1946 Exhibit Salutation or 1953 Canadian Exhibit? Sorry if this is an obvious/dumb question. Thanks.

Well, since it says "Printed in USA" in the lower right corner, it can't be Canadian!

That's not a valid test; designation of origins is needed to export to Canada. In fact, you can occasionally find an early 1920s Exhibit with a Made in USA stamp on it so it could be sent to Canada.

The card is American in origin. Really, it isn't either of the choices you posed. The Printed in USA line indicates it was made some time in the late 1950s or early 1960s. The Salutations Williams ran through the end of his career. Some uncut sheets from 1961 still have the card on it. Here is an uncut sheet of Exhibit cards ca. 1960 or 1961 at the earliest (Rocky Colavito is shown with Detroit, where he went after the 1959 season in a trade for Harvey Kueen). Next to Rocky is Ted Williams' Salutations card

Here is a checklist card for the 1951 print run that shows the Williams as well as the DiMaggio and the Feller:

I personally do not treat the Salutations and the later cards as separate sets because of the number of overlapping cards that spill from the Salutations 'set' into the later issues.

Default Williams Exhibit

Robert:

FYI, the Canadian Williams comes in either a purple or the much rarer green tint. With the number 30 in a diamond shape box at the bottom
