Default Series #2 Card set for players Post 1930...who makes the 54 player cut?

To recap, I have had a few polls and discussions over the past week or so as to designing a set of cards to feature players. Now comes the last thing to decide....

What players to put into the set.

The votes for the last poll of how to break down the players featured in the NET 54 Card set was almost a dead split tie….so to create even better and fun discussion (and since this was my idea….) The Net 54 Set will be comprised of 2 Series!

The 1st series will be for players that made an their first appearance in 1929 or earlier.

2nd series will be for players that made their first appearance in 1930 or later.

I have listed the checklist on the first post of this thread which I will update periodically when it seems like there is a strong consensus for inclusion.

Let the discussion begin!

Limiting this to 54 players should create a lot of good conversation. I am sure there will be disagreements. Try to keep it all respectful.

2 Ted Williams
3 Mickey Mantle

As with my suggestion on the other thread, I'm going to suggest interesting but not necessarily great players. Of course Mickey Mantle was awesome, he doesn't need to be celebrated in another card set for anyone to get that. But we can highlight interesting and/or underappreciated players.

How about:

Isao Harimoto - Japan's all-time hits leaders (and atom bomb survivor)
The Alou Brothers (they can share a card)
A card about players who actually saw combat in WWII (Spahn, etc.)
Mark Fidrych (he can be pictured talking to a baseball)

Arky Vaughan is the only one that belongs on this list. Everyone else debuted before 1930 and would go on the other list.

and 13 Negro Leaguers
Satchel Paige
Josh Gibson
Buck Leonard
Monte Irvin
Cool Papa Bell
Judy Johnson
Oscar Charleston
Martin Dihigo
Pop Lloyd

Default Multiples

A couple of multi-player cards like the 53 Bowman colors:
The three who had 2 no hitters in one season.
A father and son card of the Griffey’s

Considering Joe Di'maggio has one more vote than Darryl Strawberry and Greg Maddux is apparently competing with Robin Roberts, I think your idea might be a winner!

I vote Munson and Michael Jordan.

Frank Thomas; Steve Trout; Ken Griffey Jr.; Rickey Henderson;
Willie Mays; Warren Spahn; Jim Abbott; Hank Aaron; Roger Maris
and Theo Epstein.

My two cents-

Paige- technically debuted in the major leagues after the cut-off
Carlton, Ryan, Maddux- crafty, power, and finesse
Rickey Henderson- an all time great, and an oddball
Pee Wee Reese- On and off the field a great person and player
Richie Ashburn- one of my all time favorites
Reggie Jackson- power player and clutch
Winfield- all around great athlete and brought leadership to teams
Jeter- again, played in the spotlight with class and skill
Ichiro- still underrated, could hit anything at any time, speed, and fielding
Ken Griffey, Jr.- great during his time even when injuries took him
Cal Ripken, Jr.- ironman, tough, good glove, good bat, good brains
Koufax and Drysdale- both great
Ozzie Smith- brought flair back to the game, great fielder, decent hitter, fun
Bob Feller- nice guy, would sign and talk to anyone, oh, and he could pitch too!
Mike Schmidt- one of the greatest 3rd basemen ever.

Mickey Hatcher- determination, tough, and funny. And one of the best baseball quotes of all time..."I would rather be the worst player in the major leagues, than not be in the major leagues at all."

There are others...but my first thoughts.

I hesitate to further disappoint you, but the Grissom on my list was Marv, not Marquis. Willie Mays knows him, if you don’t.

I heartily endorse Mr. Gwynn as well.
