Default ???PSA 60's Special???? - Grades popped!! The eagle has landed!

Gauging interest in the PSA 60's special.....the only catch is, I got an 8 day cruise coming up so that will leave out a major chunk of time near the end of the month.

Are they going to screw us on the low value limit again? Having it top out at $199 is just plain ridiculous.

The $200 DV, when the price for each card is only $4 less than the value bulk price, is a real poke in the eye

Well I guess "good" is in the eye of the beholder. If you have a bunch of mid grade 60s cards you want to get slabbed, then paying $15 per card instead of $19 per card isnt a bad deal.

Imo a $200 limit is ridiculous. Makes zero sense.

$ 15 for less than $200 value. Doesn't make sense to me. Must be for commons or stars in the 1-2 range. The ones I wanted to send in are all over the $200 limit.

Well...it's not sports too....I am sending in some Batman cards I wouldn't otherwise get graded.

Can some explain something about grading and fees. If a card is submitted for grading and the card has been deemed more valuable than the price paid for the grading fee, then does the TPG grade not grade it unless an adjusted (increased) fee is paid? I can only imagine this happens very frequently.

Your order is held up and you get an email saying your card is worth more in value that the sub allows, and you are responsible for the increase in fees. Had it happen on the last big sub with some Cobbs and a Babe Ruth. My advice is to be realistic as to what you think it will grade.

Just curious, what would be the minimum value of a card that you would consider for submission? I have some semi-star cards that could grade 6-7 and at the grade be worth $50-$60.

Seems like these have actually started moving. Mine was logged in August 23rd and just moved into the Assembly stage today.

PSA won’t send it back to you until you pay the upcharge.

Not sure what would happen if you refused to pay the upcharge.

Historically, they have threatened to return it ungraded if the upcharge wasn't paid.

That is a nice strategy to consider. Seeing the upcharge, you'd know what grade it got. So, you decline it, and when they send the card back, you immediately send it off to SGC (knowing what grade it 'should' get) for a smooth $15, and have it back in less than two weeks in a holder without incurring any additional (and excessive) opinion fees.

PSA will hold your card hostage and force you to pay the upcharge fee if you want to get it back in its graded holder. Alternatively, you can decline to pay the upcharge fee and they will return it back to you ungraded. However, they will still charge you the grading fee for the service level you submitted it at.

So if you submit a card at the $300 grading fee level, and they want to upcharge you to a $1k grading fee, you can decline the upcharge and they will send your card back ungraded and they will still charge you the $300.

I have done this before.

I haven't had an upcharge lately. The last time I got one, was when my Karl Malone rookie got a PSA 10. Due to the value, I gladly paid the upcharge.

The grades have popped...and the way PSA does it, is NOT user friendly for a spreadsheet anymore. I tried to do the best I could, so my apologies. If you want to be surprised, DO NOT click this link!!

I'll be curious to see the grades vs expectations for this submission. After a pretty long streak of terrible vintage grades, I finally got a bulk vintage PSA order back this week with accurate grades.

Very happy with four of the grades, disappointed in two. Not saying they didn't grade accurately, they probably did, just was hoping for one grade better on one of my submissions and two grades higher on another (which I knew was going to be a reach). Still, encouraging overall and will continue to wait for a special that includes R non-sports as I have a ton of that to grade.

Given that long streak, why are you still submitting to PSA, if I may?

I have definitely started sending a lot of the stuff I used to send to PSA over to SGC now. But for certain cards, it's still worth the gamble at PSA. Sometimes you get a fair grader there. It's a roll of the dice. I use my own grading probability distributions to decide where to send what.

With all the noise from vintage collectors screaming from the rooftops at PSA regarding harsh grades of vintage, you'd have to assume at some point they actually start listening to their customers and hold a grading realignment meeting with the grading team. Especially when those complaints are coming from long time seasoned hobby vets who know what they're talking about. Perhaps that has recently happened? It's still too early to tell, but my most recent submission and this submission both being accurate is at least a sign of hope.

There are a lot of things I like about SGC. The prices they bring versus PSA is not one of them.

Snowman posted several examples of how the exact same card actually brings more in a SGC slab.

I'm in agreement Scott....as a whole, PSA brings higher prices. Do you notice that in your auctions as well Scott? I would LOVE to see them both bring the same comps. That is simply not reality though.

.. I have not read a post in this vein concerning vintage cards sent to PSA Grading and returned , for a long time. Perhaps all the new kids in The Joe O Memorial Basement have learned a bit ?

..Happy for your circumstance with the cards,. !!

In my experience, all things being equal, PSA cards go for more. If an SGC card has screaming eye appeal for the grade that can be an obvious exception.

HOF'ers the gap is smaller, commons the gap is HUGE at the higher grades, easily explainable by the lack of a set registry.
