Default OC #34 – Awesome as Always !!!

Fellow collectors, Old Cardboard (thank you Lyman and Brett) continues to publish a high quality magazine. The Spring issue features four articles as follows:
  • D381 "Fleischmann" Bakery Comprehensive Review (Bill Cornell)
  • Centerfold View of Lumber Delivery to Louisville Slugger (OC Staff)
  • 1916 Ferguson Bakery Premium Pennants (Jim Sexton)
  • Excerpts from an old 19th Century Weekly Tobacco Journal (Joe Gonsowski)
In my humble opinion, each article lives up to the high standards of our hobby’s best periodical. New and interesting details are shared on the D381 set; from print runs, player variations, and caption variations to a complete gallery of confirmed players. The Ferguson premiums article offers an interesting glimpse into a very rare collectible.

The final article pulls hobby content of interest from an old Tobacco Weekly Journal that I was able to study (May 1889- May 1890, a narrow window over a long run of publication). The content of the journal includes accurate dating of numerous card issues, albums, banners/posters, new cigarette brands and more. The Journal also provides a detailed entry on cigarette packaging, the conversion from paper packs to slide and shell packs. Another entry shares drawings and description of a pack not known in the hobby (that included baseball cards). The time period also coincides with the ATC merger and its impact on the tobacco industry. So if you are interested in accurate dating of N29 and numerous other sport/non-sport cards, Goodwin’s exploits, or cigarette packs you might find the article of interest.

Issue #34 is now available for purchase at Old Cardboard website here.

For those of you who already have a copy I welcome your comments/observations/conjecture.
