Default Titulares Pele Variations:

I hope everyone here is enjoying their Christmas.

The 1958 Titulares cards are very special because there is not one, but two Pele rookies that are in this set (numbers 50 and 86, the latter being more difficult to track down). These cards were also released BEFORE the Quigols.

Now I noticed the following with the number 86 card:

- One has an overprint and a black star
- One has an overprint, but no black star (the most common of the three)
- One has no overprint and no black star

Does anyone know the reason behind this? I know that these cards were sent in for prizes - maybe the one with the black star allowed you to win something different? But then what about the one without the overprint? Is that an ERROR card or did it mean something?

Default Cool!

Nice find. I knew about the star/no-star but haven't seen the no star no overprint. It might be because this card is outside of my budget so I don't watch it carefully.

I agree that no-star / with overprint is definitely the most common.

Any idea on rarity between the star v. no-star/no-overprint?

I would say that the no star/no overprint is the hardest to find. I have only seen one over the past few years. I have seen about two or three black stars.

It's frustrating because whenever I have questions about the hobby, I usually find answers pretty quickly. With Brazilian soccer cards, however, it's a different story.

Isnt that the truth--For Argentinian cards you have the Dificiles book (and i think there is an Uruguayan equivalent). Does anyone know of any type of reference book for Brazilian cards or memorabilia?

I got the Dificiles book on Amazon. It is currently listed as unavailable. The full name is "Difíciles eran las de antes : historia de las figuritas de fútbol en la Argentina :1910-2013" by Bitrán, Rafael, and Chiappini, Francisco.

Here is a link to the publisher:

Here is a web site with images from a museum show devoted to Argentinean soccer cards that Bitran was involved with:

Here is a video on the show:

I hadn't heard about PSA stopping grading these. What's the backstory on this?

Are there other major soccer issues that they have changed their grading rules around recently?

As always, thanks to those who answer questions. I am always learning a ton from the forum!

They are no longer grading the 47' Nannina cards. This is bad because the Ferenc Puskas rookie is in this set.
