Paul, very cool cabinet. Dan is correct in that Sam Thompson would go on to play for the DAC but not for a decade or so after that photo. I'd love to hear what members are listed as playing for the team in 1890. Also, are you able to tell what studio took that photo?

And here is one of my favorite Detroit memorabilia items.

Best Regards,
Joe Gonsowski

Joe,

Here's a list of the players. No Sam Thompson. I have no idea who the photographer was for this cabinet...any idea who it might be?

Rob,

That's a great shot of a bunting bat you posted. I posted one of mine about a week or so ago. Do you have other 19th century bats?

John

I've probably posted that image 10 times on net54, and you're the first person who has correctly identified the furniture as an old baby's crib. It's a cool piece to store the gloves, and the glass top for the pennant was my spouse's idea

1984 Louisville Stoneware statue of Pete Browning made for 100th anniversary of first bat made for Browning. About 12 inches or so tall with real wooden bat. Very tough to find. Have seen 2 of them and I own both of them. Sure more exist but haven't seen them. Anyone?

Richard, Cool items. Do you have the rubber Toy Town stamper to go along with the Toy Town box?

Leon - I'll contact you when my 19th cent interests turn to 4 base hits

I believe that this wrapper is one of only two known.

As for the toy town stamp, i have been looking for the actual stamper for about 2 years now without success. I have located a stamper from a later generation game, but the original one (from the 1st gen game above) alludes me.

Just back from framing; the Eastern League has my Buffalo team players and was actaully produced in Buffalo. The Velvet Black Sox is the twin to the Piedmont Black Sox premium I have.

That Eastern League composite is superb Jim. You took a better picture of it than REA did for their auction. It looked like it was faded but I can see by your photo that it is not.

Hi Dan, it truly is clear and sharp, except for the thumb hole through the lower right player. Will enjoy viewing it on the wall. I am an avid card collector, more so than memorabilia, but most of the cards are buried whereas pieces like this I get to see all the time. Wish I had more walls.

Just came in mail today. Scan in ebay was small so I was just bidding on needing the piece. Seeing the piece up close shows Satchel Paige sitting next to Bob Feller; Larry Doby in the upper row also. A nice surprise.

Thought I'd show a few more. As you can see, i collect New York Yankee material, with an emphasis on the years 1903-1927.

Possibly the only extant scorecard from Jack Chesbro's wild-pitch pennant losing game, October 10, 1904:

Thanks Dan. I grew up in the Bronx--pretty close to Yankee Stadium--and would hang out at the players' entrance (mid-60s) for autographs. Around 1965 I became interested in the 1920s Yankees, and obtained my first Ruth and Gehrig autographs in 1966. Collecting stopped when I went away to college in 1968, then graduate school, jobs (I'm a physics professor), marriage, children, etc.
Took it up again--seriously--in 1990, and with eBay's assistance I buy and sell a bit to support the habit.

How about you?

I started with cards when I was a kid in the late 1970s - sold off my whole collection (with the exception of my Old Judge cards) around 1990 when I was in college. Around 1997 I discovered ebay and started collecting the T206 set and with that I got interested in all the ephemera surrounding the game and it's been pretty much non-stop collecting since then. My major focus is photographs and Nebraska related baseball items like the Nebraska Indians.

Great Ruth ball, David.

Most of my collection is cards but this coin bank is one of my favorite memorabilia pieces.

The only auto balls I have are single signed balls of Aaron, Mathews & Spahn plus a team ball of the 57 WS champ Milwaukee Braves, including Bob "Hurricane" Hazle.

There's just waaaaaaaaaaaay too much Yankee stuff being posted here!

Only kidding (sort of). Nice stuff.

Just to add balance to these new additions, here's another favorite when He played for the GOOD GUYS (c. 1918-1919)

Hi Joe,

A collector friend that I purchased this from had shown it to Josh Evans at Lelands. Based on the Red Hat band, they dated it from the Red Sox years. To be honest, I don't know how you can really pinpoint it to a specific date. Lelands also had another hat band (sans hat)like this which they called Red Sox years.

Speaking of Sox....It's looking VERY ugly tonight.

Greg
