Default Jackie Robinson by Drew Max

https://www.proxibid.com/asp/LotDeta...&lid=13606995#

Umm...signature might be real (no idea since I do not do autos) but the picture sure is not Jackie! It is Duke and his son, Kevin. Weird...

The signature looks real (my opinions and the opinions of this TPA usually differ), this is one strange piece.
Maybe Jackie gave it to Duke?

Sold for only $110, thats a steal if it's real. What about the other ones Richard, they look like they all came from the same place.

The others look good too,,, the seller got hosed on these.
$110 for a Jackie Robinson autograph is a huge steal, regardless of what it is signed on.
I would guess that someone presented these photos to Jackie requesting that he sign them.

I was able to pick one up for $110...the pic of Mr and Mrs Gil Hodges...weird item, but I needed Jackie for my 55' Dodgers project.

I also picked one up, not sure who's on the photo. It was number 5.

Richard deserves something for the live authentication. I was tempted to get one after Richard said they're good but I've never been interested in Jackies auto

A complete steal for a Robinson auto, although as said before they are weird due to Jackie not being in the pictures. Now here's the really weird part...most times if we saw something like this sell for $110, several people would say that they can't be real because a real autograph of said player would never go so cheap.

I have to agree that the Max cert had to of scared many away. Evidently even the bad ones get one right every once in a while....

Perhaps that's all the fan had on him when he got Jackie's autograph at a game.

I was there as a floor bidder, won photo #3, and was quite happy with it. $100 well spent for once.

Do you guys think that the Robinson and Paige ball was real or fake? Also thanks again Richard for giving your thoughts about them.

I've never seen this site before, do they have a good reputation for selling legitimate autographs?

Proxibid itself is a platform that (typically) smaller localized auction houses use to enable internet bidding in their auctions. Proxibid itself is not the ones selling the items, and you will see hundreds of different auction houses represented using their software.

As with any such set-up, some of the sellers using Proxibid are legit, some clearly are not, and many fall into the gray area of being "generalists" who, out of ignorance (willful or otherwise), let some bad pieces slip through. What percentage of sellers fall into each category has been a frequent topic of discussion of late, but there are at least a handful of legit auction houses that use the software. The downside is that, unlike eBay where there is at least some policing of sellers, Proxibid has proven to be lax in keeping the "bad guys" out of their system, causing many here to blindly write off any auctioneer using their software.

Not being familiar with Lewis Auctions, I couldn't say which category they fall into, but it sounds like others may be able to speak from experience with regarding their practices.

There are companies that create then sell or rent auction software for others to use. These software companies are not the auctioneers. I've seen bad and I've seen good sellers use proxybid, just as there are good and bad sellers on eBay. As far as seller reliability goes, you have to look at each seller not the overall platform.

When I first looked at the auction I looked at the picture and chuckled because I said wow a good Jackie autograph on a Duke Snider picture.
I did not realize the auction was still running
You guys would have had to fight me for them if I had paid attention .
You got a steal for sure.
And the reason has been discussed already.
Plus it is one of those obscure auction companies which are unknown to sports collectors. Put them in Lelands and I would think you would get $400 apiece for them. I sell Jackie on an index card or GPC for $650-$750.

An excellent example of not bidding on an item and losing out on a good opportunity .... because the wrong tpa paper came with it.

I know it's a reach, but any chance these photos could have been manufactured with a high dollar laser printer?

Obviously anything is possible...I will let you know once I receive mine...but, I don't think that takes away from the fact that they sold cheap...I do believe the lack of online bidders obviously came from Drew Max cert and possibly lack of awareness (advertising). I am on Proxibid all the time looking at items and I found out about the auction through Net54.

I think if they were going to do a lazer copy, wouldn't you then do it on a photo of Jackie and not other players. Also I didn't know about this auction either till i saw it here. But I noticed that it said online registration was only a hour before the auction, so it may not have been online long.

I have mine in hand and it is definitely not a laser copy. The autograph is on top of the emulsion layer of the photo.

Agree. If you were going to make a laser copy fake to fool buyers you wouldn't chose the Robinson signature on a Duke Snider photo.

Presumably, 99% of current and future laser copy signatures will be from online images-- auctions, etc.
