Default How many cards in your collection?

Posted By: Darren J. Duet

I'll start with stating that I have over 500,000 baseball cards. Unfortunately, only 1000 or so are pre-war and 20,000 are from the 50's and 60's. The majority is 80's junk. It's kinda amusing that the more I spend on cards the fewer I add to my collection. I chalk that up to maturation as a collector.

I'd like to add that I have about 2200 prewar nonbaseball cards as well, mostly depicting history or historical figures and other sports.

Hi Doc Darren,

I have around 200 206's, all slabbed.
My wife has 12 203's; she's halfway there.

I've given most of my shinies away now---
you have quite the collection of pre-war and shinies!!!

all the best,

barry

I have roughly 50,000 cards, but I have had over 500,000 before. I have smartly been weening off my 70s-00s crap. Slowly, but surely!! My prewar collection is very small, but I like it!

I have about 800-1000 pre-war cards and about 4000-5000 post-War cards including some '70's sets from my youth and 100-200 star and HOF cards from the 50's and 60's which I bought at shows in the late 70's and early '80's. The only post-war stuff I have bought in the last 20 years have been a few Aaron and Robinson cards.

I have 73 pre-war cards 60 of them are graded and probably down to about 13,000 cards after 1980. Most of the cards that I have after 1980 is from my childhood days so I peopably won't get rid of anymore of them. To many fond memories.

Hi Folks,

First of all, Ted, I want to echo Jimi's post.

I have no stocks, bonds, or any other retirement money. All my worth is in my cardboard, autograph's (of every conceivable type) and coins.

I couldn't begin to even estimate my card collection, but, like some others have said or implied, most of the value is in less than .5% of the total number of cards.

Yes, I do have wax/vend/cello/rack cases drom the 80's (ugh), but they just mainly cost me storage fees. LOL

And a few "modern" goodies like Jordan rookies, slabbed Tiger 1 ofs (autoed), and so forth.

We had a bad hurricane here in 2003, and many families were displaced in shelters for varying periods of time. So my now deceased wife and I got an idea to take most of our large collection of Classic (brand) cards (cases) to the shelters and see if we could put some smiles on the kids' faces (of all ages....LOL).

It worked out great, as the cards (in foil packs) were a really big hit. with the kids. We even had several cases of Classic Saturday Night Live packs, which even got some smiles on the faces of the parents.

So, I guess giving away most of your lesser value cards is one suggestion I would make. It might even be a good tax deduction for some of you, as well as clearing out your basements/attics/storage sheds.

Anyway, it was a great topic, and brought back some great memories for me.

Regards.

Bob

I am currently 238 cards into my 1684 card player set from 1908-45. I have complete sets of 1971 and 72 Topps and a few random modern cards that buy on accasion to satisfy the need to open a pack. Most recently I bought some Turkey Reds. Very nice cards.

Jay

If you can sue a band for making you want to commit suicide, can I sue Barry Manilow for turning me into a wuss in the 70s?

Jimi and Bob S

Sorry guys, but Charlotte, my wife....daughters, Zoe and Debbie
and grandchildren, Ronnie, Kurtis, and Madison are the lucky ones.

Although, as I have listed, I am starting to sell my sets. At this
point I am not sure which ones I will continue to sell and which
ones I will keep.

I used to have a lot more cards but got rid of many tens of thousands of modern, football, hockey and basketball cards. I don't really know how many are left; probably about 10,000

The Burdick Collection at the Metropolitan Museum has about 30,000 different baseball cards.

We know that lots of posters in this thread have way over 30,000 different baseball cards, but somehow the tone of your card assembly sounds is a bit different. Please elaborate.

He died in the early 1960s. It's a heck of a card collection because it has massive groupings of N, T, E and R cards.
