Default Bobby Doerr

I did not realize Bobby Doerr was the last surviving player to have appeared in a game in the 1930s. He is also now the oldest living Hall of Famer ever.

I knew the former about Doerr, but not the latter.

Still active as of last year. I sent him a letter asking for coaching tips for my tee ball team. He replied within a few days with enough signed HOF plaque postcards for the whole roster.

The boys on my nine know their history! Bobby is OK with me.

Default Gehrig..........

Bobby Doerr. The last living player to have played on the same field as Lou Gehrig, and several other immortals. Quite amazing. Mr. Doerr is one class act. Some of my Bobby Doerr cards below. If any of you have some Bobby Doerr cards, interesting items, or photos please post.........I'd enjoy seeing them. He's the last link to the 1930's.

He is also the HOFer who lived the longest. I believe this week he passed Al Lopez for that distinction.

I agree, let's appreciate what we got

And in a great trivia note: IIRC -- Doerr was in Goudey, Play Ball, Leaf, Topps and Bowman as a player. He is the only player to pull off that feat

Only in 1951, Blue Back. If you count that as a legitimate Topps card.

My heart skipped a beat when I say this thread just now - just this very morning I finished writing the description story for a 1943 Bobby Doerr game used and signed bat for Goldin Auction's next catalog. I was afraid to read he passed away or something, and now I'm relieved to read that it is a thread on how he's still here.
