as a side note, has anyone here sponsored one of their favorite players on www.baseball-reference.com,ive seen about 50 players so far sponsored,im sure theres more but ive noticed some big names still available, might be a good way to promote a website or help find a card of a certain player they collect. $5 for a player whos page has been seen up to 5000 times in 2 years is a pretty cheap advertising rate, althho the more famouse the player the higher the rate but some vintage hall of famers are still only $10 each |

baseball-reference.com is an incredible site, and an invaluable recource for me as I deal with a lot of obscure-player autographs. I've had autos of players who's entire careers consisted of a single at bat (some batted 1.000, some batted 0.000) or a single or no innings pitched-- so the site provided answers not ordinarilly on the tips of peoples' tongues. If I was forced to look up this infomation in the Total Baseball book, I'd have arms like Popeye by now. |

5 Yr. MLB pitcher/dentist in Chicago: Rich Nye of the infamous '69 Coobs (Cubs). He went 13-10 in '67; still practices tooth work here in the Chicago area. |

in Alexander's McGraw bio. They called him "Turkey Mike" because he strutted around like a turkey. McGraw really like him, and was always trying to get him on his team when he wasn't in jail or temporarily banned from the league. |

I haven't read Alexander's book on McGraw yet; but I'll certainly move it up on my list now. Thanks for the info, Scott! |

Yeah,I said Barry Bonds, you wanna take this outside Rudd! Oh wait, you still have some stuff of mine, hmmm maybe i should explain the Bonds choice to you, when i first started collecting cards bobby bonds was one of my favorites, eventho his career was done,i still liked guys with lots of homeruns(i was 6! stop shaking your head) anyway when Barry Bonds(Bobbys son) was in the minors for the Pirates,my favorite team,i started following him and when he came up he became my 2nd favorite, and has been my favorite since Fisk retired.Thats 17 years of following his career,i even have a ton of his rookies, that i didnt sell when the cards were skyrocketing last year, because hes my favorite player |

When I was a kid I thought Bobby Bonds had it all: power, speed, defense. One of the highlights of being a kid was meeting him and getting him to autograph a ball (which I still have)...then Barry came along. At least I can't be accused of any kind of cultural bias - I don't like Barry simply because he's Barry. |
