Default Pin Info

I just picked these pins up, I'm thinking they were issued late 40's or early 50's. Anybody see these particular pins before, first I have seen?

Never seen any of them before Randall. That is an awesome display!

Yes, I have seen them before, but never on a display board. I have one of the Browns and maybe one other team. I agree with your estimated date of issue.

I have most of the felt pennants with these EXACT team logos. They were all dated to 1951 by the seller, who had great provenance and backup. It is safe to say these pins are of the same vintage, give or take a year.

These specific logos are seldom-seen. Nice pickup that has to be ultra-rare (possibly a lone survivor). I would estimate a value of around $400 in a Hunts or Lelands type auction ($500 if you can somehow remove or diminish the handwriting). Hope this helps...

Based on the jawline my first guess would be Alvin Dark.

Until about 7-8 years ago at the "old" Strongsville show (you know, the good one), I had never seen this Indians pennant, which you'll note has the same Wahoo as the pins on your display. A friend of mine had picked up one of the pins a year or two before I bought this pennant. Between the two of us, we had been collecting Indians memorabilia for a combined 50 or years at that time. It was the first time we'd seen that pin.

In the past five years I've seen the pin offered for sale on a semi-regular basis, though not enough to call it common. My educated guess is that a fairly large supply of "new-old" stock was found, and that could be where your display came from.

I think Mark's assessment on value is in the right neighborhood.

Real nice pickup Randall and at a great price. I was watching the auction and thought it would sell for more. Yes, I agree definately late 40's or early 50's. It would be more easy to date if there were some St. Louis Browns pins on the card. I noticed the Browns were not represented and thought maybe these pins were sold individually at some point. The pins would probably sell for $20.00 to $25.00 each.

I've only collect Cubs and Tigers pins. I've seen the Cubs pins come up a few times each year. They sell around $40-$50 easily.

The St. Louis Browns pennant is indeed part of this set, which is from 1951. My Browns Pennant is currently stashed away, but is definitely part of this set. It is perhaps the rarest and toughest to acquire. Bob McCann sold one about 5 years ago for over $750.

All of the pennants have a rather bizarre mascot logo at the left and an "action" vignette in the middle (like the Indians pennant posted by Rob). The same artist who designed the pennants definitely did these pins.
