Default T206 Overprint Question

How often do you find the overprint shifted or misprinted to the point of exposing or failing to obscure the original Factory No. 30 and presenting the Factory No. 30 in addition to the Factory No. 649? I'm trying to glean some knowledge from those that a far more versed in this issue. Any information would be appreciated.

I'll let the experts answer the "how rare" question, but I've seen two.
I'm a back man, and that is a nice card.
Who is on the front?

I feel like you probably see 24 stamped correctly for every 1 double factory with the 649 overprint.

People like them and they are scarce enough that they get a little premium.

I agree with Luke. I used to think they were much more rare than they really are.....They still command a premium IMO....

Default Scott....

All answers are correct......they typically run between $100- $225.00 bucks.....

the more "shifted" usually the more $ type of rule....I have had several over the years and are a neat little error....not ultra rare, but gives enough attention to command a premium....

not a "strike it rich" error....but

One time I mentioned an attribute of a card in an auction and the eventual winner told me he paid more because of that attribute. It is all about demand (says the collector who pays way too much for stuff)

I like Luke's "24:1"

Of the 27 I have, only one (Ewing) has the double factory.

Yes, some premium, for those who care

I agree with what other board members have said. They are out there, but you don't see many.

Here are a few more examples. Liebhardt & Davis

To me, the Davis is a really nice example since the bar missed completely.

The klutz who ran the printer responsible for these offset overprints probably lost his job, when quality control got wind of his product. He then turned to cheap whiskey and in a stupor fell off the Brooklyn Bridge never to be seen again.

Take one of these cards with you the next time you visit the East River and toss it in the drink. Can you think of a more fitting tribute to this anonymous hobby hero? I cannot.

Frank, I'm surprised that you didn't mention that the klutz's last name was Delehanty.

Bumping this thread.

I recently found one of these overprint T206s where the red bar missed about half of the factory 30 stamp.

It's a raw card, probably would grade 1 or 1.5, non-HOF player.

Earlier in the thread, someone said 100-225, but that was six years ago.

I was curious, does anyone have an idea for a going rate for something like this?

Also have this one with the shifted overprint. But it cost a little bit more...

Just wanted to add in my love and appreciation for the 649 OP and the 42 OP, and I am attempting to put together both subsets. I also really like that the bar is a solid dark red on the 649, and is a more ornate, lighter red on the 42 OP. They look great in the binder.

Here are a few 649's that I have, a couple of them I did pay a premium for.

[IMG][/IMG]

and a pair of 42's the Leach overprint missed by so much that it has the 42 from the card above it on the top.
