Default 1949 LEAF BB set re-visited....show us your cards

The 1949 LEAF's aren't the most pretty looking cards in the hobby, but there is a certain appeal to them. Anyhow, I have quite a sentimental attachment
to these cards, as they were my first colorized BB cards I collected when I was a kid. I still remember opening a pack and finding a Babe Ruth card. They
were great for flipping, or scaling with your buddies. I still have my original 49-card set from my youth. Never saw any of the 2nd series (49 cards) in our
neighborhood in Hillside, NJ. These so-called Short-Prints were distributed only to Eastern Massachusetts, Illinois, Michigan, and Ohio.

I'll start this show with my two favorites. Looking forward to seeing your 1949 LEAF cards.

1st Series.....issued March 1949 (last card of Joe D in a major set)

2nd Series.....issued Summer 1949 (1st card of Paige in a major set)

I don't have any scans handy, but this is my all-time favorite set. I love it that they look like Andy Warhol was making baseball cards. (And in 1949! Those folks at Leaf were way ahead of the time.)

One of my favorite sets. Cool looking, and loads of varieties far beyond what's cataloged.

When I first got back into collecting, around 1998, these cards did not do much for me. Over time, though, I have learned to appreciate their unique beauty. The set is definitely an acquired taste, and I like the challenge of finding the odd color variation or perfectly registered HOFers.

I agree with the Warhol comparison. Years ago I made this "sig" to put after my posts on some of the forums, and it was inspired by the classic Warhol silkscreens for which he was known.

In general, I'm not a fan of this issue as many of the images are blurred or otherwise inferior to all other sets...see the Newhouser scan posted as an example.

My two do not suffer from that problem, nor did the Musial RC I sold recently.
