I'm down in Manhattan until the end of September. Are there any shops offering a good selection??

Frankly, no. The city of New York is not big on shops that carry pre-war vintage cards..Game used autographed stuff can be found. Plenty of Yankee related stuff as well. But true vintage from NYC or the metro area can only be found on the net...

Sadness ... Thanks for the reply! I find it amazing that a city like that has little to offer. I have been looking and looking ... I found one place that had 9 '33 Goudeys that were cut into a perfect square and that's it. Oh well. It was worth a shot.

If you find any good spots for vintage cards, please let us know. Incidentally, there is a baseball card show at the Westchester County Center this weekend. You can get there by taking a MetroNorth train out of Grand Central to White Plains. The WCC is within a 10 minute walk of the White Plains train station.

Sadly Brigandi Coin was something that looked good on paper. Walked by there are the place was completely vacated. I called the number and it rang and rang ... so I'm not sure if they are moving / remodeling / ...

I will see if I can get up to MVP.

So far, the best has been a place called "It's "A" Nother Hit". 131 W. 33rd St. (212) 564-4111. Not much at all pre-war but a good number of late 40's+ Some neat older Comics too.

No tobacco baseball cards yet ...

No. But I do have 22,000 graded cards and 250 ungraded sets on display. Most are what I would call high-grade vintage.

Funny, I lived in Central Islip (right next to Hauppauge) for several years, then moved to Queens when I got married.

Moving into a house in Valley Stream now. (Actually had to sell my collection to help finance the purchase; it's a long, sad, familiar tale. Just now getting back into collecting.)

Maybe I'll try to go to the Hofstra show also. Any idea how many Forum folks are in the Manhattan area? We should try and meet up.

I have get-togethers from time to time at my house of local collectors/dealers/graders and my collection is on display.

Last time I had all the graders at SGC there and my friend Dave Forman talked about the direction of the company.

I will probably schedule another one soon.

Saturday evening and anytime on Sunday..I will go any place on the Island or in the city..Hell I will even meet at a Bar! I just need to talk face to face with some collectors..And I dont want to turn this into some kind of Pre-war pissing contest over who knows the most, or who has the most, or who has the most rare and valuable pieces or collections!..October is almost here, lets do it in that month and set the date well enough in advance so we can put it on our social calenders..My Email is richp60@optonline.net

I greatly appreciate your amazing offer!! Sadly, I live in Saratoga Springs and am down in Manhattan (Seaport Side) only until Friday. I will be back in town for a week in another 2 months. Sounds like by the time I come back there will be a hard core group gathering that I can crash! I will let you know when the dates for my next trip will be as I would love to see your display. People like you are why I love this hobby. I have this great passion and energy for the hobby that I rarely get to share with other people. Just seeing a collection is an amazing experience for me. May I suggest Sunday the 30th of Oct. at Hofstra 1 or 2 PM, and we can go and grab a bite to eat in the area. Decent Italian across the street from the Nassau Coloseum?. Or how about a Sports bar in Manhattan on a Saturday night or Sunday afternoon? Does ESPN still have that place on 42nd street?..Somebody reply.

I just went to Alex's MVP in Manhattan on my lunch hour and am happy to report that there is still a place in NYC where you can walk in and buy tobacco cards -- I purchased three T-206 in VG-EX condition for a total of $80.00. Not too bad, given they have to pay rent.

They have a nice array of stuff spanning the 20th Century. I did not notice any big money cards, but there was lots of early 20th Century stuff to be had. And the guys there were cool to talk to.
