Ted, that Burns card looks a familiar

I can't contribute any cards to this thread since I narrowed my player set focus to only those major leaguers that appear on cards as major leaguers.

Sometimes when I reflect on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. I think, "It is better to drink this beer and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver."-- Babe Ruth

Just curious, when did the International, Southern, Texas, Carolina and Virginia leagues enter the PCL?

Jay

Last year there was a fistfight between fans and players at a professional basketball game. Not to be outdone, the National Hockey League has announced that not only will several fans be beaten every period, but one lucky fan each game will be run over by the Zamboni.

my bad. for some reason I read PCL and nothing else. I blame living in CA for 20 years on being PCL-centric. Those other minor leagues are real minor leagues

Hope memorabilia is o.k. Here's a great original Western Union telegram from Casey Stengel to longtime Oakland Oak Ralph Buxton. This was sent to him just after the Yankees won the World Series in 1949 (a team Buxton was part of).

Hi Dick, nice job on those Bowman's - they look really clean! Here's a scarce single day event poster. Can anyone help with the year based on the uniform/logo and the fact that the dance was only 50 cents. It could only be 1922,28,33,39, or 50.

David, great postcard. I was lucky enough to be at Wrigley in 1961 when Maris hit his 50th home run that historic season. Thanks for the link to that website.

I do not have any minor league cards. I do not collect them. I never really looked at them before this thread. These cards are fantastic!

I need to specialize tho. And I regretfully can not have everything (yet). Thanks for your show and tell. And that young Ted Williams - how much did that cost, I wonder.

Gil: "And that young Ted Williams - how much did that cost, I wonder."
Unfortunately I don't remember what it went for. I seem to recall bailing out in the very low four figures. I can't even remember who was selling it. You can see a reflection of the seller's photographer in the photo and the image is a bit a-kilter; you might thereby deduce that it wasn't one of your frontline auction houses. Image is dated November '04 on my HD. Maybe someone else remembers seeing it or even won it. It sure is a beauty. Wish I had tried harder to win it but I think I was going through one of my "oy, I am spending far too much money on baseball memorabilia" jags.

Jack: "I was lucky enough to be at Wrigley in 1961 when Maris hit his 50th home run that historic season."
You were lucky to see Maris play in pinstripes. I was lucky, too. I was a kid in NYC in those days. The memorabilia is great but the memories are even greater.
Cheers!
DMcD

The program is for a game between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Dom DiMaggio was in Centerfield for SF and Lefty O'Doul was the manager.
