Default eBay return process?

Good morning

I have my first experience (as an occasional seller) of a returned item.

Even though I am listed as a “no returns” seller, I agreed to accept a return since the buyer was unhappy with the item. No biggie - I sell about 1 item every 2 months and wouldn’t want anyone to feel disappointed in something I sold them

But the return process is confusing - I clicked a few buttons yesterday (should have paid closer attention, did it between meetings) and now it looks like funds were withdrawn from my bank account but the seller has not yet returned the item.

Does eBay keeep the funds in some kind of holding escrow until
I confirm that the item has been safely returned?
I have a bad feeling about this one… the item is a pretty delicate and old Joe DiMaggio magazine and I worry that the buyer may not take as much care to package the return as I did when I sent it.

Does anyone know how the funds are returned to me? As of this moment, I have neither the item OR the funds! (Lesson learned for me - only buy and sell on Net54 with people I know and trust!)

Thx for any advice or experience.

Jeff

(PS, anyone want to buy a cool old Joe D magazine?? &#128521

I would expect that you will be fine and ebay will stay on top of the return. I believe the buyer is also obligated to provide tracking - did they do that?

As it is almost impossible to have a "no returns" policy - I clearly state in mine that "Seller is responsible for return postage" and have at times turned on the 10% "restocking" fee notice.

The only way that the funds would go directly to the buyer is if you selected to accept the return and also selected that the buyer does not need to return the item. Assuming that this is not the case, the money is frozen for now and under eBays control. In order to get a refund the buyer has a limited window of time to return the item, and if they fail to do so they forfeit the return and the case is ruled in your favor. If the item is not received by you or is received damaged, you are able to appeal the return and seek compensation from eBay and the cost of the return shipping.

What reason did the buyer put for return? If it was "not as described" or "damaged" the seller is obligated to pay return shipping. If you were not given the option of paying for a return label that the buyer can print out, its possible that you checked the "refund but buyer didn't have to return" the item, in which case the refund would've been deducted right away,as MINES MINT stated

My fault on this one… I used the word “intact” instead of “complete” while Describing the old magazine.

All the pages are there (“complete”) but 4-5 are loose or nearly loose (not “intact”)

I did receive something from eBay mentioning a return label. I guess that makes sense, I should be on the hook for paying for the customers cost to return the item to me.

Live & Learn! Will choose my words more carefully

Thx for the advice and experience.

Jeff
