Default Help Needed- 1930 Hack Wilson Blue ribbon Malt Photo

I picked this up recently and Am very confused by it. It is certainly not the premium from 1931. I think it’s the 1930 photo version that was glued to a large backing. But has since been trimmed. Any help would be appreciated!

The way to approach this is to find out the information and then sell it in the BST section. For future reference, selling on the front page is generally frowned upon and not allowed. thanks and good luck with it...
Here is the regular version I just picked up. Not quite like yours..

For my edification, can you tell us why your photo is certainly not a trimmed 1931 Blue Ribbon? Same photo--is there a stock difference?

Yes I believe the stock is different. On the 1931 premium version the back is white, seemingly like a picture pack type photo. On my 1930 it is more brown.
Naturally I wondered if it was aging discoloration or a 1931 attached to a cardboard type backing. And Neither of these seem to be the case. It is one solid piece of cardstock. And the back matches almost perfectly with the other 1930 photo examples listed for sale.
Also the image quality on the 1931 premium to me is noticably a lower quality image even compared to my 1930 photo which has some surface damage. (A 1931 hack premium is on eBay for reference).

Prewarcards did a few great articles on them

1930 photos: https://prewarcards.com/2016/09/05/1...and-checklist/

1931 premiums:
https://prewarcards.com/2016/09/06/1...and-checklist/

Quick note: They are both photo premiums I'm just calling 1930 photos and 1931 premiums for ease of reference.

I had noticed that the photo was somehow sharper than what I had seen of 1931 examples. The thickness and stock seem odd, and I cannot tell if the top and bottom back show signs of paper loss or paper added from removal. As I don't collect these, I am wary of offering an opinion.

Any chance it is not trimmed at all and is a separate, borderless issue? Hard to tell because it's wavy, but the "trim" looks pretty even and seems to end exactly where the border would start (although the one spot where this may not be true is where the signature ends, which as you know, is right up to the border--looks like somebody might have been careful and caught a sliver of border). Anyway, good luck with your investigation.

I wouldn’t say there’s no chance it’s a different release. But On the right and left borders you can see white slivers that make it look like it was trimmed. Whoever cut it if it was cut did a pretty damn good job. The man I bought it from told me he’d had it for 30+ years and it was given to him like that. So I assume if cut it was probably around the time of it’s issue.

The top and bottom on the back paper loss.

I have had the thought of it possibly being an original photo that was used to make the premiums. But Original photos are not my realm. I can say the photo doesn’t do the clarity of the image justice it’s very crisp quality.

We know photos were used in the making of some cards and that is a possibility with this one.
