Default High end koufax RC or low grade Ruth

Hey guys, I wanted everyone’s opinion on what they would rather own long term....Sandy Koufax rookie graded PSA 8.5 or a Babe Ruth 1917 Collins McCarthy either graded PSA or SGC 1 or authentic (whatever a comparable price would be somewhere between $32,000-40,000). I guess my point is would you guys rather own a high grade vintage card of one of the most famous pitchers of all time or a low grade pre war of the GOAT?

Because I don't own anything Ruth related, I'd take Ruth, but that's a personal decision.

What are you after? Long term investment or just for the sake of owning either?

I'd say the Ruth has staying/growing power whereas the Koufax could go either way.

Just noticed this thread: http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=261361

I'd say you likely have enough to go on now even though you now asked in the Post War section.

I would go with the high grade card to me to have one just to have it just doesn’t work, at authentic or a 1 it would be too low grade for me personally. But what is more important is what kind of collector you are? If you would be happy with a 1 or authentic then go with Ruth all day every day.

I would take the Ruth in a heartbeat. I know this line of thinking is heretical among many collectors, but the genuine differences between a PSA 6 and a PSA 9 are so tiny that a loupe may be needed to even notice them. This tells me that 90%+ of the value is for things you can't really see other than the flip itself. Meanwhile 99% of the value of that Ruth is because it's a 1917 Babe Ruth.

+1--the Ruth, hands down, over time.

Good luck on your choice,

Larry
