At the other end of the spectrum, a 1951 Vancouver Capilanos popcorn card of Bill Whyte, star pitcher as well for the University of British Columbia. Bill lives on Vancouver Island, and will be attending our local SABR meeting in Vancouver on August 25 (as a reminder to anyone in the area at that time--all are invited--email me for details)

I have an affinity for the 57 Braves because it was the first WS I remember following closely on TV and they beat the hated Yankees. So these 2 are a tie for first, right now.

Dennis,

To a Reds fan, big Klu just doesn't look right in a Pirates uniform!

I think this postwar forum is going to be a great addition.

Dennis,
I am with RC. When I get home I will post my fav. The classic 57' Topps pose of Big Klu with the sleves cut. I just think Big Klu is personified in the Cincy jersey.

Leon,
I appreciate the new avenue to keep me distracted at work. I am now almost strictly a pre-war Cincinnati collector but I started my Cincy collection with the 50's and some 60's so I can relate here.

I would never be able to pick a single favorite card. However, a few on here so far are in the mix.

Tom -- From way back the picture of the sleeveless Klu you mention always struck me as so cool.

i too, have to agree on '57 kluszewski in the reds jersey here he cut off the sleeves, but in '59 he came to the white sox and we sox fans still thought he had power...our big banger was sherm lollar... so that 59 card,to me,is part of the pennant winning white sox cards (and this was the 1st year i bought packs, too.)

Finally I am home and got to the '57 Klu. (By the way, I am an armpit collector so most of my stuff is lightly enjoyed and loved).

Thanks, Jason. If you keep searching on e-bay for Family Fun Center Padres, you should come across one eventually. It is not easy to find but I have seen a couple over the past year.

Kevin -- I always thought that the Bell Brand's were underated. The vivid and stunning color photography may be second only to 53 Bowman, and they hold up well over the years. Sharp looking card.

Thanks. They are quickly rising in value as well. Lately, I think a 1962 Snider PSA 8 sold for $3K and a 1960 Koufax 9 for $28K. Griffin (Anthony) is the king of the 1958's!

If it's Bell, it's Swell!
Despite what Kevin will tell you, it's the '58's that are the true beauties of the Bell run!

The mick was the original Terminator.

That 'reflection' isn't on the card itself

Not a card so I apologize ahead of time but it fits the Klu discussion. Also sorry if I posted this before.
Autographed Klu at my wife's grandfather's bar. Nice mother-in-law thought I would appreciate it the most and gave it to me.

Hi Jason,

The top one is a 1953 Stahl Meyer which actually is for trade/sale. The bottom one is a postcard that I picked up, but I don't know the origin. The signature is a facsimile. That pose also appears in the Berk Ross set and the 1951 Wheaties Test Set. It is my favorite image of my favorite player.
