Shut out thus far, but I went hard on that lemon peel ball found at Shiloh. What an amazing piece! Congrats to the winner!

I won 2 lots:

1) Alejandro Oms Signed Passport Page

2) 3 - Perucho Cepeda contracts

Having trouble loading a picture of the contracts, but think I did ok on the passport and very well on the contracts.

I lost out on a few of the Negro Leagues contracts; many of the contracts seemed a bit undervalued.

This very same Horner Wood sans NE corner was auctioned by Mastro in 2007. I was the underbidder. Always regretted not going harder and was pleased to get another shot at it. I don't think one can look up Mastro "prices realized" anywhere but I recall it went for a lot more in 2007. Thank you, Ben, for helping to make that so by letting the clock run out. I had a max bid placed that I really didn't want to fall back on.

Agreed. I think in some cases it wasn't immediately obvious that the listings were for more than 1 item. I just realized now (after the fact) that the Willard Brown listing was for 2 contracts and Leon Day was for 3. (I probably should have picked up on it when I bid on the Pedro Cepeda's, but somehow didn't.

I don't know if others may have similarly overlooked them.

David amazing Smoky Joe cabinet and glad you won it. I laugh now that I thought maybe my $2500 bid would win it. Do you remember what it went for in 2007?

Glad I gave up on that one though or I couldn't have afforded this guy!

Thrilled that you got that, David.

I was chasing the Temple Cup print for a while, but chickened out late. More stuff tomorrow.

Thanks! The feeling I'm getting today is that barring something changing, it doesn't sound like they are expecting to many new Negro League additions to the HOF, but it would be cool obviously.

Here is a picture of one of the contracts

I definitely agree that the descriptions could have been better - you really had to dig to find out the particulars for each listing! The Willard Brown contracts were pretty neat in that one had his fingerprint too. The Ray Brown contract was quite rare - I'm surprised it didn't go for more since one went for $12,000+ at REA about 10 years ago.

I was able to get several, but only expect to hold onto one:

The circa 1910 Art Devlin/Harry Lord/Bill Carrigan letters:

The 1901 Pirates contract signed by Harry Pulliam:

The Ray Dandridge Cuban League contract:

And a new centerpiece to my collection, the Lizzie Arlington (Stride) signed contract (also with super early Ed Barrow):

Those are amazing! I hadn't heard of Pulliam before but a quick reading introduced me. And the Lizzie Stride piece is awesome!

I was thinking of going after the letters since I have the Walter Johnson letter from the same episode, but ultimately felt I'd rather focus on other pieces.

Congrats guys...David, SO glad you got your Smoky! I thought of you as soon as I saw it, and was hoping you'd win it. Nice!

I'm very excited to have won my first Horner Cabinet- Bowerman. The image was used for his T206 card. Man, that was an intense auction close; juggling all of the bidding (on 7 of them), and the way they close their auctions, well, it's just not great.

Thanks, Michael. A pickup ten years in the making.
Great pickup on the Frank Bowerman, one of the fabulous Horner cabinets in the auction.
Christies' format was like trying to drive on the wrong side of a bumpy road. Really had to work to keep up with my bids.

Michael and David, great Horner cabinets!

I won the 1860 Base Ball Players Pocket Companion. I'm a book guy, and this auction had some really rare ones, including ones that used to be in my collection.

Missing out on the Temple Cup print, I was able to snag these two gems. Now, I just have to deal with the nearly $1,400 in shipping costs. I may be taking an unexpected trip to NYC if the UPS store shipping isn't much cheaper.

Happy to help. I should have mentioned that the photo editing programs will also allow you to crop the screen shot down to just the relevant auction details or to only the photo (the more of your screen the image fills up when you "print screen" the better the image will be). You can crop in Word too by left clicking the image once, then right click, choose the crop icon, and drag the corners of the image to the size you want.

Also - great items! I am loving all of these Horner cabinets. I need to pick one of those up some day.

Default Joe Jackson semi pro

Man oh man I was drooling over this one. Congrats to the winner. $15k sounds good when you compare to the Carolina Spinners going for $37k.

Greenville Spinners was his first professional team and a much nicer photo
He is also buried in Greenville. VM photo is great also
Wonder why those two reappeared in this auction when they were " sold" last October?

Same with the 1909 Philadelphia photo (who won it??) being relisted.

Think the same guy went after the key Jackson pieces last year and didn't pay.

Would be proud to own any of the three photos.

Another pickup and now I'm done. Kind of a cockamamy auction for those of us used to the usual AHs but no denying that there were some fabulous goodies to drool over and maybe take a shot at.

The Mills photo is awesome, but I liked the Spinners cabinet much more also. As Craig said, the Spinners were Jackson's first professional team (Class D, I believe) which is super important to many, including me. I also believe that that was where he earned his nickname.

So if you use their in house shipping you don't have to pay NY sales tax. If you pick up or use a third party shipper, you have to pay NY sales tax.

Gah?

It all depends on where possession of the purchase take place to determine is sales tax is charged. Since a third party shipper is taking possession of those items from Christies in NYC they have to charge sales tax on those items.

Christies was going to charge right at $1,400 to ship but I was able to get the UPS Store on 82 Nassau Street in NYC to pick up, package and ship to me with $5k insurance for $312.05. Yes, I had to pay the $188 sales tax but after it's all said and done I still saved $900 using a third party shipper.

The UPS store # is 212-406-9010 if anyone wants to use them to ship.
