I wondered the same. I believe it is a mistake based on this:

http://www.gridiron-uniforms.com/ima...4_ChiBears.png

Too bad. The white jerseys, tan pants, and 3 stripes on sleeve part is good, but the numbers and two of the stripes should've been navy and technically, the third stripe should've been orange and not red. The way Chicle did it kind of reminds me of a classic 49er uniform. I went back and looked at the black and white Beattie Feathers photo - if that was all you had to go on, red isn't a bad guess, but in some other b/w photos, the sleeve stripes are noticeably different colors. Also, I believe Halas based the Bears colors on the University OF Illinois colors, so red seems to be out of left field to me. Since Minnesota is Maroon and Gold, I bet some people (I think I even read this in an auction catalog once) think Nagurski is in a Minnesota uniform, but actually Feathers, Johnsos, and Masterson are outfitted the same as you pointed out. Nagurski is wearing the Chicle version of the Bears uniform.

Default Congratulations!

That is a great pick-up! Really like that card and it is a great example. I have seen much worse for that grade. Patience paid off! I will post mine sometime but don't want to hi-jack your thread. I saw an Ernie Smith, but was in an auction house lot as SGC Authentic with several others. Probably not what you were looking for. Will keep an eye out at National for you

Default Thanks

Thanks Iowa Doc, yes patience did pay off and I can't thank you and MSB sports cards and John Spano for helping me out a ton in this transaction!!!! Thanks for keeping an eye out for Ernie and I am looking primarily for a SGC 10 or 20 at on the Ernie

Thanks to everyone,

It is kind of bitter sweet being so close to completing this set!! It has been a 3 year ride and not sure where to go next?? Maybe just enjoy the 35 set for sometime but it has been a blast

Tucker
