Bought these two Goudey's on ebay...

The cards look great today when I got them and I was not suspicious at all. Out of habit, I grabbed the ruler and the cards measure a good 1/16th of an inch short side to side for the size listed for Goudey's on the Old Cardboard website of 2 3/8. Is the size listed correctly on OCB? I have noticed publications vary in the size they list for cards from time to time. Does anyone think the cards look trimmed? If so its back to more card school yet again for me.

I have bought several raw 33 Goudeys from Wayne Varner and none of them were trimmed. I think you can feel safe that these cards are untrimmed.

I am no expert but the bottom of the Holley card doesn't look right to me. I am always skeptical to buy "high grade" cards that are not slabbed. I always wonder why would the dealer not get them graded?

Trimmed or not they both look too small to be slabbed.

i have had many dealings with shoebox cards and, in my opinion, they are honest, fair and accurate graders. also, they do have a return policy there. if you arent happy, and haven't taken the cards out of their sealed semi-rigid holder, then send them back. wayne is good people. and i find it funny that you say it measures short from side to side, but a poster commented that the bottom border doesnt look good to them. also, what are you going to tell from that scan? nothing. so, i guess what i am saying is, if you don't know, don't offer an opinion.

Alan,

I have bought a hand full of cards from them recently and was pleased except for these two. The cards didn't really exhibit any signs of trimming until I measured. Unfortunately I rulered them after I broke the seal. How strict are they on this policy? I e-mailed and have yet to receive a response. I didn't read in the description about the seal until I already had them out. I thought the same think about them being short side to side and the member who said the bottom border looked short. When I measured the '33 first I thought maybe it was just an oddball produced that way until I measured the '34 and same thing. I don't think the seller is dishonest and I plan to buy from them in the future providing they accept the return.

Black Sox Fan,

What do you mean by the ruler won't do any good? I am a bit confused.

Damian

I think Wayne is away this weekend, so you may not hear back from them until next week. I have nothing but positive experiences with them. So, I am sure, if you call or via email that you will be able to work it out with them.

Based on your information and the appearance of the cards, I would have to lean towards the trimmed opinion. However, as related to you by a few other members, I have had nothing but positive dealings with Wayne both at shows and via mail order. He is truly a collector's dealer and I would assume that he will remedy your situation.
