Today was not a strike out day at the antique show....I believe I at least got on base for once
Apparently this is a rather rare ashtray. If it weren't for net54 I wouldnt have known of it's existence. The following is a link where these were previously discussed.

Default Sandy Koufax 3rd no-hitter ticket

Congrats to all of the other collectors that have posted their pickups this month. Definitely some great ones!
I'm very happy to have added this nice example of the elusive printed date version of Sandy Koufax's 3rd no-hitter ticket on 6/3/64 at Philadelphia Phillies.

This is an excellent compliment to the Type I original photo that I have from this same game. Many thanks to long-time hobby friend and Koufax collector Phil Paul that helped facilitate this pickup.

Scott, great pickup! I love the idea of pairing type 1 photos with the tickets! It makes for a great display piece.

Great pickup Scott. Can you tell me how scarce the printed date type is compared to the others? Is this one to upgrade an existing non-dated version or is this a first for you?

Default Sandy Koufax 3rd no-hitter ticket

Hi Mike,
Great questions!
FYI, many Phillies tickets from this era are undated or have stamped dates.
In my experience finding ANY dated ticket to this game is an extremely tough find, period, in spite of the fact that over 29,000 were in attendance that night. In terms of findability, Koufax's 3rd no-hitter is WAY tougher than any of his other 3 no-hitters at LA. LA collector's saved these tickets and virtually all of them had printed dates.
By 1964 Koufax was a huge draw at the gate, wherever he pitched, reportedly adding about 10,000 additional fans to gate attendance.

To put it in perspective, I have seen/heard of perhaps 8-10 tickets to this 3rd no-hitter game surfacing in the hobby in all the years that I have collected this theme (over 45 years). I suspect that about 7-8 are of this variety, but that's a guess. The purple stamped date ticket is a bleacher ticket from the left center field portion of the stadium that held about 5,000 fans and full capacity.
I will tell you that I receive inquiries from collectors several times a year looking for a ticket to Koufax's 3rd no-hitter. It continually seems to be one that is on collector's want lists.
This does indeed upgrade a stamped version of this ticket that I have in my collection, but I plan to hang onto it because of sentimental value. This cemented a great collecting friendship long ago with Koufax specialist and net54 board member Phil Paul.
Additionally, the patron that owned this stamped date version ticket, Joseph Goldstein, was Jewish & obviously very proud of Sandy Koufax's triumph and his own ethnicity that night. So much so that he signed his own name on the back. So many great themes that I personally love as a collector, intersect with this particular example of this ticket...

Default Riverfront Stadium

My Cincinnati Reds collecting interest (with few exceptions) ends with the 1970season. Thought this was a nice contextual piece for Riverfront Stadium. I have a few bats like this (first player to bat at a new stadium). There are any number of team/ball park collectors, but what seems to escape them until pointed out (CPT Obvious here), is that the first player to bat in a new ball park is going to be from the visiting team.

Cool bat -- particularly in context. And the accompanying photo and text are also very cool. What program are you using to put that together?

Thanks. I do these in PowerPoint. For may of these I end up saving them as a .pdf file and then take them to a local FEDEX Office Center where I have them printed and mounted/laminated on museum quality foam board. Size is around 8x10 and they look great with the item. Very affordable if you can do the design/graphic work yourself.

WWII signed baseball with signatures of Vince DiMaggio, Red Ruffing and some others. Was torn on pursuing this because the price tag was bumped significantly by the presence of "Wimpy" Quinn's signature. Quinn was not a particularly memorable player, (pitched 5 innings total) but due to his untimely passing in 1954, he is one of the rarest signatures of the 40's.

Given that he played ball while in the Military, WWII signed balls may be the most common source of his autograph. It is actually the second one I own. The other is a GU ball from the 1945 Navy All-Star Game.

Default HOF Sandy Koufax beautifully scored 1st & 3rd no-hitter scorecards!

I just added really nice scored programs to HOF Sandy Koufax's 1st and 3rd career no-hit games from 1962 and 1964, respectively. The patron's scoring job on both of these is exceptional, IMHO.
It should be noted that the 3rd no-hitter scorecard in 1964 is extremely challenging to find in any condition from what I hear.
Many thanks to Phil Paul for passing the baton and allowing me to add these to my collection...

The 3rd no-hitter scored program pairs up nicely with the 3rd no-hitter ticket that I picked up in September as well.
I guess September is Sandy Koufax pickup month for me.

Great finds. Well and neatly scored programs are fantastic, first-hand records of the game. That these relate to such historic games just makes them that much cooler. Congratulations.

This is the nicest 1906 Philadelphia program I have ever seen. Game was July 2nd vs the Highlanders who won 5-1. Picked it up at Westchester N.Y. show this month.

Great jersey all the way around. The '76 Centennial patches are very cool. And I've always thought the Mets skyline patch to be the best arm patch in MLB.

Default When do you know you're unbalanced?

Bill Buckner hit a homer in the first game I ever attended as a boy. Even after he left my hometown Dodgers he was still my favorite. I've stumbled upon and obtained Buckner's first pro contract signed as an 18-year old, his first Topps contract, his Angels contract and his final payroll check as a big leaguer.

The newest pickup is his actual passport from 1970. It has me thinking...do collectors -- like me -- ever wake up with a fleeting moment of clarity in realizing collecting doesn't make sense? If so, I'd sure like to have that clarity more often.

If you want to see all the stuff on Buckner, pieces on every member of the Hall, and more than 200 non-HoF guys, please check out CooperstownExpert.com. There's decades of collecting there. I hope you enjoy the site, but please tell me the danger signs that point to being unbalanced as a collector. I may have missed a few along the way!

Default Brooklyn Dodger Pinback Buttons

I don't see myself launching into pinback buttons, but these appealed to me as wonderful contextual smalls to augment some related uniforms and stadia items.

Westsiders,

The grain on that Pontiac bat is amazing. Does it have signs of much use?

Got this a couple months ago, but didn't get a chance to post it till now. Late 1930's Gehrig JC Higgins 1664(I think. Any glove experts out there willing to correct or confirm my identification would be appreciated)
