Hi Greg,
I also reported this fool yesterday. These scammers should atleast come up with something original instead of the same tired Estate sell which only contains expensive cards of Ruth, Jackson, Cobb etc. I wouldn't apoligize for this post, if we don't help police the hobby, Who will?

I've decided that I am all for private auction (seriously). Because this is the easiest way for a beginner to identify scams. One doesn't have to know the first thing about cards. All the total beginner has to know is to avoid private ebay auctions (along with ones that say, as in this one, "No guarantee" and "All sales are final"), and he or she will automatically bypass 85+ perecent of these scams. A private auction is the equivalent of an email header saying "This is spam. Delete before reading message."

A related point being that if private auctions were abolished (as I previously advocated), the scammers would turn to other perhaps less obvious techniques. Using a private eBay auction is such an obvious and simple to identify red flag, we really should consider their use by scammers a gift.

I hate to beat a dead horse (Obviously, that's not true or I would shut up once in a while), but in one or moe of these auctions, the seller says:

"All sales are final with no guarantees"

Even if you know virtually nothing about baseball cards, the seller is literally saying, "I will not and am not guaranteeing that the card is authentic or in the condition stated, and there is no way you can return it after you have bought it." Again, even assuming you know absolutely nothing about baseball cards, why on God's green earth would you choose to accept these conditions. Especially considering that almost all other eBay sellers (almost all who are honest and reliable!) offer some sort of guarantee and return policy.

I say, go ahead and win that T205 Mathewson or 33 Goudey Gehrig, because you get exactly what you deserve.

I reported him again. I have a bad feeling that ebay will let the auctions run this time.

I agree that this guy whould be hung by his...but he has changed his wording enough which might prevent eBay from legally being able to end the auctions.

I will apply pressure when I get back from dinner and call the 24/7 line.

I know that this gets away from collecting but for those that care, I want to bring you up to date. For everyone else, just do not read the thread.

I believe that eBay cancelled all of his auctions under what they call Authenticity Disclaimer that is defined on their site as follows:

Sellers may not disclaim knowledge of, or responsibility for, the authenticity or legality of the items offered in their listings.

Sellers should take steps to satisfy themselves that their items are authentic before listing them on eBay. If you cannot verify the authenticity of an item, do not list it.

The following examples violate eBay's Authenticity Disclaimer Policy:
"I cannot guarantee the authenticity of this item, so please bid accordingly."
"Vintage Handbag Chanel???"
Warning:
The repeated use of authenticity disclaimers could result in the ending of your listings and possible suspension from eBay.

This is why he re-listed the cards removing the language that lead to their removal. I have brought that to ebay's attention. If he has already admitted to being unsure of their authenticity when originally listing them (which is BS) and he re-listed the same cards within 24 hours, it would reason that they should not permit these cards to be listed again.

If that does not work then he will be suspended for False Contact Information. I bid on one of his lots and pulled up his contact info. He claims to be in WV yet his telephone number is for OH and is not a valid number.

I hope the buyers from this guy sue ebay. I will be glad to provide an affidavit that ebay knew in advance that the items were counterfeit and did nothing. This is a different situation than when ebay pretends it didn't know. This time they know!

Great call on the Glasscock image, TBob. I also reported this guy to Ebay, though I doubt they'll do anything considering the profit he's about to bring them.

I have worked with the L of C before, and know they are fastidious about copyright issues. Even though the cards themselves may not be copyright protected, the library's own images and scans ARE. Any reproductions of the same MUST include the L of C credit line; so I contacted the copyright division with a link to the auction. It's probably too late to do much about this auction, but maybe they'll pressure Ebay or at least keep an eye on this guy's images before he jets off to eternal anonymity on August 8th.

I have emailed them several times, included pictures of the L of C images, links galore, and even questioned their intestinal fortitude. Nothing. Nada. Zip. I am thinking of being the high bidder on one of the cards just to file criminal charges against this guy as that might be the only way to stop him. It seems so fruitless, like Sisyphus pushing the giant boulder up the hill in mythology, time after time, only to have it roll back down on him.

Tom Boblitt alerted us to this guy yesterday: prizesports@yahoo.com, Now he is either lifting scans from bellyfly69 and eagle8016 or he/she has a VERY close relationship with them. Compare the prizesport 1952 Bowman Mantle #101 (#2746027343) with that of eagle (completed # 2745508898). Same card. Compare the prizesport 1895 Mayo Cut Plug Hugh Duffy (#2746030801) with that of eagle (completed # 2745501375). Same card again. Each of these auctions began within two hours after eagle’s similar auction ended. Huh. Prizesports’ 1933 Goudey Sport Kings Ty Cobb #1 (2745986303) is the same card as that in bellyfly69’s auction (completed #2744524483).

If you want to see some cards that will make you spit coffee onto your keyboard, check out the guy's website (www.prizesports.net). If you’ve always wanted a Cobb T206 whose corners could cut drywall, it’ll be like going home again.

I reported five of his 19th century lots (he has a couple new entries). I got a letter back from Ebay claiming two of them have already been reported and are under investigation.

Lot 2745928643 - 20 Old Judge card lot which is just over $2500 with 10 hours left to go.
Lot 2746322692 - 5 Old Judge lot including a Anson portrait.

Just trying to do my part to stop these reprints from spreading across the globe as real cards. Many will find their way back onto Ebay from multiple sellers. Instead of watching out for a handful, it could become 100's.

Other than giving the ebay complaint department something to read and then ignore, are we serving any purpose other than alerting each other about the scam artists like Eagle8016?
I think the boycott of ebay being discussed might be the only way to hit them where it counts, in the pocketbook.

Keep the prssure on ebay and Eagle8016. According to one report, he/she has now passed $60,000.00 in sales of fake and replicated cards.
