Default Amazing find

So, I thought I would share this story about a collection that walked into my local card shop yesterday. A guy came in with this awkward looking box of cards he stated was collected while he was a child in the late 50's and had been in his mom's house since 1966. The cards had not been touched since and were mostly in mint condition except for a few. It was mainly 1955, 1956, 1957 and 1958. I allowed the card shop owner to execute the deal first and after the customer left, I worked out a deal for the entire lot of cards less the Mantle's. I basically paid him a little less than what the lot cost, which would allow the Mantle's to be his profit. I was STOKED with the cards.

Here are a few of the cards in lot:
1956 Mantle (2)
1957 Mantle (3)
1957 Mantle Power hitters (3)
1956 Clemente
1956 Aparicio
1957 Colavito
1957 Kaline
1956 Mays
1956 Banks (4)
1955 Aaron
1955 Kaline
1958 Maris; there were two. I bought one, which was nice, but the shop kept other, which I think is an 8. it looks straight from the pack.

I will try and post some pics here in the next few days, but just wanted to share my find. All in all about 400 stars/commons from 1956-1958 with a few 1955's mixed in.

Ended up being 432 cards in all for the lot. I attached a few for viewing. Very happy with the purchase.

Default Beautiful Lot

if getting graded please don't expect Mint grades, if that is indicative of condition. Cards are gorgeous though and an absolute nice find. Congratulations.

Congratulations, Garrett, on your excellent timing, and great score!

I rotated the picture for you, and adjusted the levels a little bit to make it a little easier to look at. Cheers!

here are a few more pics...the Aaron and Berra are creased, but the color and quality on the 56's are unreal. The commons just have not been handled in years.

Amazing pick up. I love hearing stories like this. So what's next? Going to build set? Flip the lot? Cherry pick your favs then try and move the rest?
Great pick up.

at this point, I am going to submit some commons to SGC and see how they come back then go from there. Now that I have such a great start, about 50% of set, I will more than likely build the set.

Great find, congrats! Now, the easy part is done....if you are going to build the set, if you are like me, you need to find the rest in the same condition. Good luck!

sending 11 cards off to SGC tomorrow to get a gauge on the condition: Maris RC, Colavito RC, Aparico RC, 57 Kaline and some commons from 56 and 58, which should grade well. Taking advantage of the $6 fee for 50's/60's and will let you all know the results.

Grades are back from SGC...got some nice results, but a little disappointed in a few....

Maris RC; 70
Aparicio RC; 60
Colavito RC; 55
57 Kaline; 80
58 Ford; 84

Graded another 8 or so commons all back between 55 and 84. Will send some more back later this month. Thanks for the look.
